minho was happy for the blackout screen on the plane window. he wasn't sure why his dad thought that a chair next to the window was a good idea, but sure. this worked.

it wouldn't take long before they would land in amsterdam. it wasn't unusual for his dad to take him with him to somewhere around the world, but this was a first. whatever.

the first day, they just hung out at some hotel. the building was pretty neat, with a chill balcony and a swimming pool. it didn't take long for him to dive into the water.

they explored the city, and so on. visited a few museums, went to a fancy hat shop and a lousy market on the same day, anything to spend the time they had. there was a big park, which minho especially enjoyed. he had found it on their second day there, and had been there every day since.

but something was wrong. apart from the usual, of course. normally he really enjoyed travelling. he enjoyed europe, the clouded but sunny sky of the netherlands. the park was really beautiful, everything was perfect, and yet he was sulking.

why why why why why why?

why does my mind have to ruin everything, even the few good things that are left?

at some point, he did realise, though. he missed something.

he missed someone.

more specifically, he missed han jisung. he wanted him to be there, to see the city with him. he wondered when he had grown so attached to him.

he had something else to figure out first, though.

that evening, he told his dad he was going out. it wasn't a lie or anything, but his dad looked rather surprised. his son, go out? nonetheless, he was okay with it. not that minho asked for permission, he was legally an adult after all.

a club in amsterdam wasn't hard to find. not even this one. it was crowded and sticky, just as he remembered. hyunjin had taken him to a club once, last year. it was pretty cool, but he hadn't seen himself going another time soon.

yet here he was.

he had forgotten how loud the music was. years & years was flowing through the speakers, hurting his ears. but not being able to hear his own thoughts was actually a lovely change for minho.

he sat down at the bar and ordered himself a drink. nothing too heavy. already was he finding this whole adventure a terrible idea. he just sat there, silently, playing with his glass, mentally punching himself for his horrible life choices.

suddenly, a guy sat next to him, speaking to him. he only understand 'hey,' though, as the rest was in dutch. at least, he assumed it was dutch.

'sorry?'

'english?'

'yeah..' his english wasn't exactly great, but it would have to do. maybe those english classes with jisung had paid off after all.

'is there an airport nearby or is it my heart taking off?'

minho stared at him as he repeated the phrase in his head. then he laughed. 'is that the best you can do?'

the other held his chest dramatically. 'yes?' he said, as if in pain.

minho shook his head and brought his attention back to his drink.

'what's up?'

'hmm... i am thinking if this was a bad idea.'

'why?'

minho wouldn't meet his eyes. he continued to stare at his glass and shrugged.

'you wanna dance?' he looked up at the ceiling and considered the question. he would definitely regret this later, but well.. maybe this would work.

'yes, okay.' he looked at the stranger again. his hair was a brown mess, but it kind of suited him.

'i'm simon, by the way.'

'minho.'

he led him to the crowded dancefloor. minho might've been a dancer, but he had no idea how to move here. how do people do it?

he managed, in the end. and when simon leaned towards his ear and yelled another pick-up line over the music, he tipped back his head and laughed.

his heart beat to the music and for once he was actually having fun. he didn't allow himself to think of anything, at least, until the taller boy grabbed him by the wrist and led him to the side of the club.

'you know,' simon said, as minho leaned against the wall and looked at him curiously. 'you're really fucking cute when you laugh.'

he stepped closer to him and put his hand on minho's neck, before leaning in to kiss him.

the music was pounding, but his heart was pounding way harder.

he was kissing a boy.

and fuck, he couldn't say he didn't enjoy it.

he woke up to the sound of his phone buzzing on the nightstand. the room was dark, the time read 5:47 am.

'hello?'

'minho? where are you?'

oh, fuck.

'uhhh....'

a sigh could be heard from the other end of the line. 'if you could make your way back to the hotel, we can eat breakfast together.'

'uh, yeah, sure. i'll be on my way soon.'

why did his dad have to wake up so ridiculously early? it was holiday, for christ's sake.

the light on the other side of the bed turned on. a sleepy simon squinted at him. 'korean sounds cool.'

minho smiled. 'yeah, sure. my dad called, he wants to eat breakfast together.'

'hmm.. good luck explaining those.' his finger trailed down minho's neck.

he pressed his eyes shut, already imagining the awkwardness.

only then did it hit him, where he was, who he was with. how yesterday's plan had worked out exactly as he had wanted it to.

when he opened his eyes again, simon was smirking at him.

he shook his head and kissed him. 'prick,' he said against his soft lips.

on minho's request, they hadn't gone all the way. but some new, interesting things had definitely gone down that night.

anyways, he was very glad he had gone with a button-up the day before. only one and a half hickey was visible above the collar of his shirt.

he put his number in simon's contacts and quickly got out of there. thankfully his phone wasn't dead, so he could easily find his way back to the hotel. figuring his dad would already be there, he went straight towards the dining hall.

he wasn't very hard to find. his father was the only one in the room, apart from a couple in the corner that was discussing something in a language he didn't understand.

'good morning,' he said as he sat down.

his dad looked up from his phone. 'good morning,' he greeted him. he quickly scanned his son, making sure all of his limbs were still where they were supposed to be. his eyes lingered on the spots in his neck, but he didn't say anything about it.

the raised eyebrows and amused smile plastered on his face said more than enough.
