The child scrambled all the way to the end of the bed and held a pillow folded over his ears. He looked at his uncle with a face somewhere between anger and disbelief, but mostly, and largely, indignation.
"What a bad story!"
The man slapped his thigh in laughter, before reaching his hand out to the child. "Alright, I will tell you another one, now come back."
"No!" The child shook his small head, and the pillow shook along with it. "Uncle Hwan is a jerk!"
The man stopped laughing and leaned towards his nephew, his brows dipping downwards and making furrows on his forehead. "Oye Park MinSeok, where did you learn that word?"
"At school!" The little boy puffed up his cheeks and hmph-ed, turning his little head away from his uncle. He put his stomach flat on the pillow and crawled to the very edge of the bed.
"You don't know what antlers are, you don't know what a doe is, but you can speak bad words to your Uncle," JaeHwan scratched his chin, "I am seriously doubting what they teach at school these days."
"Anyway," he continued, "don't say that in front of your mother. She'll think I taught you how to say that."
"I'll tell her you tell me a bad story!" Little MinSeok chirped and dived from the edge of the bed to the carpeted floor, landing flat on his tummy.
For a moment, JaeHwan stared at him, wide eyed and alarmed, but he relaxed when he saw that the child had a pillow as a shield.
"Why don't you just sleep? You are not getting any more food," JaeHwan said sternly. "No, cute faces don't work for me."
MinSeok's sunny smile instantly dampened into a scowl.
"I no sleepy!"
"That's such a shame," JaeHwan groaned, "because a lot of fun things happen in dreamland when you sleep."
"You told me a bad story today. So I will have bad dreams today." MinSeok walked round and round in circles, like a little duck.
"That was my life story, little one," JaeHwan reckoned the boy to come closer, "I did pretty bad things, didn't I?"
"You not a bad person, Uncle. Appa says no one is bad."
"Your Appa..." A sly smirk crossed JaeHwan's face. "He was a weird person himself."
"Uncle Hwan," MinSeok jumped up, "when will Uncle Shin be back?"
"I don't know that, child," JaeHwan sighed, "maybe today, maybe tomorrow. I don't know when he'd be back."
"I wanted to sleep with him," MinSeok complained.
"Me too," JaeHwan pulled a long face, "but now you should go to sleep, or else you won't be able to go to school tomorrow. And where is your Appa? He said he'd be here by now."
