A gentle hush cloaked the land.
Hexo's winter comeback album played in SooMin's ears from the tacky earphones tucked loosely in her ear. Her scarf was wrapped around her neck warmly, and she rubbed her bare hands to keep her fingers from freezing.
It was only a year ago that she had first seen him. Small, skittish, arguably cute and a heap load of sunshine in the cold, dim skies.
And that day, she saw him again.
He had changed. SooMin could see it. He was no longer the cute little boy she had first met on a snowy morning. Tae Shin had started looking like who he should have looked like.
A young chaebol master of an affluent family.
Of course, riches complimented his looks. A person as angelic as him was supposed to be dressed up in smart, fitting clothes. But SooMin glanced down at her own red coloured winter coat. It was expensive, and might not have been exactly in the price range for an accountant's daughter.
SooMin's parents did make her dress like a Princess. Of course, only up to a certain limit that they could afford. It was natural for Shin's Uncle and Aunt to want him looking like a Prince.
"Noona," he said shyly, "how are you?"
The way he rubbed the back of his head and looked down at his white canvas shoes, fumbling like a newborn foal, shy to meet SooMin's eyes, his hesitant smile-
Had Shin changed? Really?
"O-Oh... fine." SooMin bit her lip. "What about you?"
Tae Shin had become more handsome. SooMin had never thought he could look any better, but with his thin shoulders squared, a little more meat in his dangly body and his blushing cheeks made SooMin's heart miss a beat. His white over coat and white pants, with a dark blue shirt made him look like an angel.
A very mouse-y angel.
Perhaps an angel for mice.
SooMin's lips parted in a smile.
When mice look up at bats, do they think bats are angels?
"So..." the silence between them stretched taut and thick, and SooMin wanted to yell at him for not being in contact for three entire months. But SooMin couldn't bring herself to yell. The shame of being the one who severed ties with him was far too great.
He looked better when he smiled. Much, much better.
"The thing is -"
"The thing is -"
They both opened their hesitant mouths to speak, but their eyes met and they stopped.
