One month ago, we moved to Hawaii. I wake up each day with intentions of hanging at the beach. The reality is we're still trying to settle and the visits to the beach have been too few...
Beach
Awoke to musical beach waves
A day lounging without a care
Umbrella in powdered sand
Sea breezes of salted air
Beachcombers stroll, castles built
Clouds crowd, momentary chill
Hiccup to utopian day
Immersed in novel by Melville
Tide recedes, humidity climbs
Underworld's ancient furnace stoked
No reprieve from the glowing orb
Lazily floated and backstroked
Out from waves, feet on fire
Scampered, sliced foot on broken shell
Words escaped; onlookers stared
Dripping blood, cursed "Oh hell!"
Returned to blanketed oasis
Something was strangely amiss
Tote with first aid left at home
Memory has altered beach bliss
Winged creatures on air currents dive
Serene inhabitants of sky
Loud splat from above my head
Poo decorates sun hat, I sigh
Back to Ahab and Moby Dick
Apropos beach book 'must read'
Volleyball hits sand too near
Nothing on blanket unsullied
Children excitedly squeal
Sizzling bacon burned skin bared
Sunscreen forgotten, not applied
Parents upset; tempers flared
Leisurely pack beach wagon
Escaping the perfect day
Trekking back to our new home
Where I'll contentedly stay
