"Oh, hey, Bucky!" Sam says, glancing at the man before watching the tv again only for his eyes to trail back to Bucky. He was shaking. A wild look in his eyes. His hair was all over the place and his face. God, his face was covered in cuts and bruises.

"What happened, Bucky?" Sam asks, his brows scrunching together in concern. He doesn't answer, just stares. Sam inches towards him cautiously, something Bucky notices. An expression paints itself on Bucky's face but it's gone too quick for Sam to know what it was. With a sniffle, he walks down to his room, slamming the door shut. Sam couldn't help but flinch.

What happened? Did someone hurt him? The last thought makes his blood boil. Who the fuck would hurt someone like Bucky? Wordlessly, Sam walks down to his best friend's room, knocking on it.

"Piss off, Sam!" He yells from the other side. His voice was wavering. Sam could only imagine the terrible expression Bucky has. Alright, after he finds out who the fuck hurt his friend he is gonna murder their ass. "Bucky, please. You're obviously hurt and I need to make sure you're okay?"

"I don't need your help, Sam!" Bucky growls, slamming his first against the door. Tears welled in his eyes. He broke the rules. He killed someone.

"James Buchanan Barnes, you open this door right now before I kick it down!" Sam demands, his fists clenching and unclenching. "Fuck off. You're annoying!" Sam tries not to let it get to him. He tries his hardest but to hear Bucky say that? That's something that he don't think he'll ever get used to.

Is he really annoying? Who is he kidding, of course he is, he always teases Bucky and only now does he notice the look of annoyance each time he teased him.

There was silence for a few moments before he can hear Bucky sigh.

"Sam- I didn't..." Sam just sits outside the door, letting those words sink in. He's done it again, hasn't he? Maybe he should just leave, that's what Bucky wants but he can't just leave. His friend is in need of comfort so if he's annoying, after he makes sure Bucky is okay, he'll let the ex-Soldier be.

"What happened, Buck?"

"I won't leave until you tell me."

"Well then, I guess you're gonna be here for awhile." He can hear Bucky reply.

"Very well."

"Did someone hurt you, James?"

Bucky notices the change of name and curses himself for it. He hurt Sam. A good friend he is. A scoff escapes his lips, his teary gaze watching nothing. The silence was killing him.

He doesn't deserve to have someone like Sam to look out for him.

"No." Is his reply. Short and vague.

"Tell me what happened and if I annoy you, I'll leave. Just tell me what happened."

Bucky wants to scream at Sam. Let him-assure him that he doesn't annoy him. In fact, he keeps him company when the thoughts get too loud.

"Two guys." He answers, his lips pursing.
"They were the people who harassed you yesterday."

He can hear Sam sigh. "You didn't have to do that, James. I experience it all the time. After all, I am a black guy in America. We aren't appreciated much."

"But-"

"What'd you do to them, James?"

"Well, I hurt them." He replies. Not liking the silence that dragged on. He knows Sam's judging him.

They stay like that for the rest of the night. Not a single word was said after Bucky's answer.

The next morning, Bucky finds Sam asleep, leaning against the wall. He said some nasty things last night. That's the thing with Sam. Everytime Bucky tries to push him away, Sam just keeps coming back.

Why though?

Staring at him a little longer he finally takes action. Gently lifting the man, he carries Sam to his room, laying him down on the bed before laying beside him. Just watching Sam sleep.

Slowly, his eyes flutter shut and he falls asleep again.

He'll apologise to Sam later.
