"Do you know the story of Hyacinthus?" The quiet voice of Tommy filled the room. He was leaned down on the marble ground, his normal attire covered in a blood red cloak. His hands were gently brushing against the purple petals of a hyacinth flower.
"Some lover of Apollo, wasn't he?" Phil responded. The avian didn't hate Tommy, but he sure didn't like that Tommy had partnered with the Syndicate in a pseudo truce. Techno had explained they were getting a new member code named Leto, but Puffy had shown up with Tommy in tow. Now, Tommy was walking around their base, carefree like a spoiled brat. Only Ranboo and Puffy seemed to like him. Techno disliked him, Philza only saw him as a stupid child, and Niki was pure hate.
"He was more than that. Here, I'll tell you what happened," Tommy said, loud enough to attract the other members of the Syndicate. Techno snarled, Niki rolled her eyes, Ranboo came to sit near Tommy, and Puffy gave him a warm smile. Philza merely took a sip of his drink, preparing for a horrendous story told by a boy he didn't acknowledge.
"A long time ago, in the land of Ares, a Spartan prince was born with beauty to rival Eros. His charming appearance stirred something in the heart of the sun, who came down from the heavens to earn the lad's heart. This prince named Hyacinthus fell for Apollo. The god was so overjoyed that he took Hyacinthus into the sun chariot, whisking him away to worlds of adventure and divinity," Tommy began his story. Philza had to admit that he didn't expect Tommy to have learned story telling from Wilbur and Techno. "Apollo, the charming and brilliant god, who was revered as much as he was feared. He wasn't hated, but he was seen as foolish and spiteful. Hyacinthus saw something more in Apollo that others didn't. He saw something worth loving."
"Good story-" Techno had said in order to shut Tommy up. The Piglin should have known that wouldn't work. When had Tommy ever been quiet for someone when he didn't want to be silent?
"Hyacinthus wasn't adored by Apollo alone. There was another god who wished for Hycinthus' gaze,
Zephyrs, god of the west wind," Tommy spoke. Philza nearly dropped his cup when he heard his code name. What game was Tommy playing? "He saw how Apollo and Hyacinthus got along, and decided to do something about it."Philza placed his cup on the table. As he looked around, he knew that he wasn't the only one rapidly drawing conclusions from Tommy's story to real life. Philza knew what part he was playing in this tale retold. Philza had the vague idea he knew who the other two roles were. He wanted to tell Tommy to shut up, but that would be admitting that what Tommy said was bothering him. Philza wouldn't give Tommy that satisfaction just because Tommy wanted it.
"When Hyacinthus and Apollo were throwing discs, playing around like young men do, Zephyr used his powers to make a disc Hyacinthus threw down come back to strike him in the chest," Tommy continued. Techno shifted uncomfortably. That wasn't exactly how the story went. "Apollo was in despair. A harsh, cold reality settled over him. Hyacinthus was dead. Nothing Apollo did would bring him back. No amount of healing magic or food of the gods would allow Hyacinthus to open his eyes again. He was dead."
Tommy's voice wavered, like tears were building up. Ranboo placed a comforting hand on his shoulder while Puffy darted forwards. Tommy shrugged them off, lifting the potted plant of the ground, back to everyone. "Apollo decided to do something for Hyacinthus. He took the fragile, broken body of the one he loved, and he transformed it into a beautiful flower that would carry his legacy. Apollo protected, nurtured, and governed this plant that he made in Hyacinthus honor."
Tommy turned to face Philza, tears built up in his wild eyes as he took careful steps forwards. Philza's hand felt his belt for the hilt of his sword. Tommy gave him a disappointed frown, plopping the potted plant on the table in front of Philza. "What did Zephyr do? He had killed the one he loved, and broke the once sunny god. Did he grieve or mourn? No... he took the hyacinth flower, and ripped it from the ground. The petals blew westward, broken and loosing color. Each time, a flower would grow from the roots, Zephyr would destroy it until the flower refused to grow."
Tommy pushed the potted plant into Philza's hands, not caring that Philza was shaking nearly as much as Tommy was crying. There was a fire in Tommy's eyes that reminded Philza of the sun. Caring, brilliant, shimmering from a distance, but fiery, fierce, and vengeful in close quarters. All the pent-up anger Tommy held for Philza was bursting from his eyes in that moment. Philza didn't hate Tommy, and he didn't fear Tommy, either. But that look... Philza couldn't truthfully admit that it didn't give him anxiety.
"The west wind soars above the ground because it can't bear to the hyacinth flower," Tommy whispered darkly near Philza's face. He rose back up with a playful grin. "That was a pog story, innit?"
