War looks back at what he had with a sense of remorse. He had been part of two worlds without his divinity, neither time a punishment but a choice that he made. War willingly entered into the cycle of rebirth in the hopes that he would gain a fresh perspective on what he did best. While the others were forced into reincarnation because of one mistake they made or another, War hoped that with a new life, he could find something meaningful. A part of him almost hoped that if he learned what it took to be human, he might enjoy life more than he currently did.
In his first life, War ended up as someone powerful. He found himself amongst a group of demi-angels who did not know about their hidden divinity. War had been friends with these people. Close enough that when one of them abandoned the group, War felt the sharp pains of betrayal. It was enough that when War regained his divinity, he caused the world to burn away in the embers of a war he started with the demi-angels and the supreme authority of that specific war. Once the man was killed, the world fell apart around him. His mother had been disappointed that the world failed, but she couldn't find it in herself to fault War. She offered him a new world to play around in but he refused the offer. War stayed in his room for a considerable length of time before he felt he was over the betrayal and the world.
His second life may have lasted longer, but it was filled with a much harsher reality. He was born considerably weak, especially given the family he was born into. An angel of death fell in love with the guardian of the afterlife cursed with the powers of winter came together to birth a pair of twins. One carried the gift of a siren's song, and the other was burdened with voices in his head demanding blood. War was born after them as a younger brother, talentless in many ways. When the maiden of limbo returned to her position, War lost touch with his mortal family. He opted to find new horizons. This was where he came upon a land unfamiliar to him. While he didn't know it, his kin Nature had similarly reincarnated without memories, and the two of them befriended each other without knowing the divine link they shared. That was the beginning of War's adventures in that world. It was almost fun after the fact, but War remembered all the fear he had felt when he was part of that world. Some of the people there had been reincarnated from his previous world, and War had felt the strange connection even without the memories. More than a few times, Chaos would visit him in her divine form without letting him know that they were connected. She would help him laugh when times were tough.
When Balance had reincarnated, War felt the instinctually dislike for him even without knowing why. Chaos and War both hated Balance by virtue that they went against each other, as Balance normally stopped their fun when it got out of hand. Nature didn't mind Balance because in the end, Nature always made sure things balanced out. Death didn't care one way or another about any of them. War didn't even know he had been reincarnated into that world, as well, until much later on. Life even came along one day as a reincarnated, though he had been allowed his memories. Life really only came because War and him had been friends for such a long time, and their mother was worried about War. It didn't matter because Nature and Balance had joined forces to create an equalizer called the Egg. Death stepped into that conflict despite being a solidly neutral player thus far, and with all the divine energy around him, War's memories awakened. It didn't help that pieces had started to come back after his "death" (it was a temporary soul displacement, but his mortality thought he had really perished). War had been upset with Nature and Balance for ruining the world, but who was he really kidding? He probably would have destroyed it later on, anyways. Worlds should only last so long. They could run their course, but eventually one of the gods had to put a stop to it. With the Egg in place, the gods hid from the destruction that followed until they were placed back into the divine realm.
War had considered pulling his mortal family out of the cycle of rebirth, but he knew the others would disapprove. It was frowned upon for them to grow attached to mortals. They could play with them however they saw fit, but if emotions became involved, they would step away. The others had a much easier time of doing it. Chaos and Death rarely grew attached. Life and Nature were hesitant, but they always followed through on the unspoken rules of walking away. Balance would have a rough time, but he was pretty good at making himself forget how important the mortals were to him. War was the exception. He usually was. He was their mother's creation, unlike the others who had been rescued from the horrible sky gods who once ruled. She had purposefully made him like the humans that he would drive to bloody unrest. War resented her for that every time he grew close to someone he knew he had to leave behind. To remedy his pain, War reincarnated into the world that his mortal family- and a lot of his former friends- had been born into. In this world, they were hybrids living in relative peace. Since War was living amongst them, aware of his powers, he made sure that any conflicts spurred on were fun or quick to end.
War hoped he would be alone, but Balance and Nature followed him to the new world with their memories. War refused to give them the time of day. He spent his days with his former family members. Well, two of them. The third who was born as a normal human had barely been around. War could live with that. War enjoyed his time with the people he could be around. Balance and Nature wouldn't leave him alone, though. After some quality time and apologizing, War accepted them back into his life. That was probably the best decision since he had some good times with them. In fact, that War was enough to sedate their need for amusement that they got from toying with humans. War even begun pulling strings in the background with Balance to give Life, Death, and Chaos show from where they watched over them.
His mother came to visit him once. He laid his hand in her lap while she played with his mortal hair. They discussed War's many adventures throughout his times of reincarnating. She made sure to apologize for allowing Nature and Balance to destroy the first world, but since War had long since forgiven them, he didn't ask her to punish them or anything. She offered to give War more power, but avian was the choice he made. He was going to stick with it even when his former family and Nature tried to train him into becoming an Elytra like his former father. War's mother decided that she would still give him a gift, mainly because he was her favorite and while they all knew it, no one said anything about it. She took some of the divine clay to sculpt a new angel for the world. The angel was given the domain of partying and fun, something that none of the gods had taken dominion over. The angel instantly hit it off in the world without knowing that her wings were from her divinity and not her avian Origin. War, Nature, and Balance had fun playing around with her, but they eventually let the angel make her own decisions. They made sure to thank their mother for the angel despite the fact that it was War's gift. He was always terrible about sharing the important things, but if it was something rather stupid like discs or animal pets, it was his and his alone, and mercy to anyone who broached on that.
Life took War away for a brief time to a pocket dimension where he was keeping two souls that he found interest in. War humored his longtime friend, even when he recognized one of the souls as one of the victims of the Egg. War felt guilty as he watched the man's happiness flourish, so unlike how he was silently suffering beneath the brainwashing. War didn't tell inform Life when he summoned a gift for the man, bringing to existence his former lover who had also been a victim of the Egg. War feigned disgust as he watched the reunite, but his heart was moved by their actions. Life had to place a hand on War's shoulder, dragging him away slightly as if to remind War about attachments. Gods couldn't have them. War almost threw a punch at Life, but he refrained from resorting to violence. All he did was glare at Life because he knew already. Primedamnit, did War know.
War returned to the world where Balance and Nature were waiting for him. War supposes Life told them that War was in one of his moods. War didn't really care because even though he audibly complained, his body slumped into Nature's arms while Balance played with his hair, his tail wrapped around War's torso. War wasn't allowed to see his former family until he felt 'better'. He wasn't allowed to be attached. War knew that he wasn't just being comforted, but he was being blocked from the people that would unconsciously exploit his weakness to mortals.
War was already attached, though.
