Short, little part two of You Will Always Be My Baby

"You bitch!" Tommy said. There wasn't malice in his tone, or the faux anger that he would put on when he couldn't handle the situation. His words were almost lost in the laughter that bubbled in his stomach. Tommy leaned against Purpled's shoulder as he tried to keep his balance. Tommy felt his vision grow blurry as he tried breathing in the air around him. All this did was make him cough, and for some reason, Tommy found that hilarious, prompting even more laughter. Tommy would have been rolling on the floor had it not been for Purpled holding him up. When Tommy felt himself calming down, he was took a deep breath while wiping his eyes from any tears that had started to form. Tommy took a step back from Purpled as he tried to mimic his lung's motion with his hands.

"It wasn't even that funny!" Purpled complained with one of the largest smiles he had ever worn around people. Purpled had been telling a story of what happened to him once at a village, and Tommy had almost suffocated himself with his laughing fits. Purpled was as much amused as he was concerned for Tommy's safety. His red face with discoloring lips didn't paint the image of someone getting enough oxygen. Still, Tommy was in a good mood. In fact, this was the happiest Tommy had been in weeks that didn't involve Shroud, and one of the best moments on his entire life. It wasn't a high bar to leap over to become a good moment in Tommy's book, but man, did this time with Purpled fly above all others. Tommy supposed he hadn't felt like this since before the wars. It wasn't like the people in Tommy's life hadn't made him happy, but the situation dampened everyone's moods to the point that any true excitement was a pale imitation to the real thing. Happiness after the wars ended were few and far between until Shroud stumbled into his life, and Tommy made friends with the other parents of the Server. And Purpled. The former mercenary certainly was part of Tommy's new personal circle that kept him going when times were tough.

"It was the funniest shit I've ever heard. Not better than anything Big Man Tommy could have said, but it was pretty decent," Tommy said, elbowing Purpled for emphasis. Purpled rolled his eyes, watching Tommy's vibrant reaction. Purpled could only smile as Tommy went on a rant about him, taking a few steps forwards. They were walking back from Las Nevadas to Tommy's house with Wilbur and Shroud on the outskirts. Wilbur had left to bond with Fundy earlier that day, leaving Tommy behind with his son. When Shroud was put to bed, Purpled came over unexpectedly. Purpled seemed nervous when he asked if Tommy wanted to go on a walk. Tommy hesitantly said yes, but all suspicions fell away when Purpled and him started navigating the scenic routes around Las Nevadas. Tommy hadn't noticed before, but the closer they got to the house, the antsier Purpled got. Tommy looked over at him with concern in his eyes. "Hey, King, you aren't looking so pog over there."

"Tommy, I have something I want to ask you. I've talked to several people, including Shroud, about this. I think it's the best decision I can make. I want you to know that I-" Purpled stopped. His face had been looking emotional, but it melted away into confusion. Purpled looked around. He sniffed the air before looking back at Tommy. "... I smell smoke." Purpled took a few steps forward. His eyes widened as he turned to Tommy. "Your house, Tommy. The smoke is coming from your house."

Tommy didn't let Purpled finish as he broke out running. He crested the final hill to see that, yes, his house was on fire. Tommy didn't hesitate as he kept going. He ran right through the trees, the branches cutting sharply at his clothes and skin. He was dangerously close to the lake, but he was going fast enough that his shoes didn't sink in the mud. Tommy came to the final bend to see George and Karl standing a few meters away from the burning house. SapNap was on his knees beside the building, flint and steel in his hands. They looked at Tommy with big smiles, but Tommy could care less about them. Shroud wasn't there... which meant...

Tommy ignored the screams as he ran right into the burning house. There were probably better options, but Tommy couldn't care less as he leapt over flaming walls and parts of the ceiling that fell onto the ground. Tommy's lungs burned from the smoke, tears blurring whatever the smoke didn't obscure. Tommy pulled his shirt over his mouth as he burst through the door to the back door. He looked around widely to see that in the midst of the flames and charred stone, a figure was laying on the ground. Tommy felt a cry escape as he fell to his knees by the figure. Tommy turned his son over, feeling for a pulse. Tommy was positive he didn't have one when couldn't feel a heartbeat beneath Shroud's skin. Tommy felt hysteria entering his mind like a parasite, but someone was there to grab Shroud from Tommy's arms. The person took Shroud out of the house with Tommy right behind them. It wasn't until they were outside that Tommy recognized Purpled was the one who was laying Shroud onto the ground. Tommy fell to his knees beside Purpled. Coughs threatened his lungs, but Tommy forced them back down by holding his breath. Purpled felt for a pulse, but he didn't start panicking like Tommy did when he didn't feel one. Purpled pressed his fingers together, pushing down on Shroud's chest. Tommy gripped his arms as he watched. Purpled didn't give up on the CPR. The seconds ticked by with Shroud showing little sign of waking up and Purpled not showing any sign of giving up. Dizziness started forming around Tommy's vision, and he knew that he hadn't been breathing since he left the house. As black spots danced around his vision, Tommy finally took a shallow breath.

It was cruel irony that when Tommy took a breath, Shroud began breathing again. Tommy's eyes widened. He grabbed onto Shroud's hand as the boy started coughing. Tommy was careful to help him ease the coughs out of his lungs. Shroud looked over at him with all eight of his ruby eyes. When a small smile tugged at Shroud's lips, Tommy collapsed against Purpled. He was sobbing, coughing, and he was squeezing Purpled's hand in a vice-like grip. Purpled didn't complain as he took Tommy's weight upon him. Purpled wasn't crying, but he was breathing harshly from his heart skipping beats from intense anxiety. If Shroud didn't wake up, Purpled knew that he wouldn't be able to comprehend it. Tommy wouldn't have been able to live through it.

"We... we didn't know," George was the first one to break the silence. Tommy lifted his head to look at the brunette. Despite their falling out due to the wars, George had always been something of an inspiration in Tommy's life. George was placed on a level above everyone else, the place right below Philza Minecraft. Tommy breathed out as his vision turned to Karl. There was a man he barely had any interaction with. Tommy supposed he liked Karl enough. His vision shifted to SapNap, and Tommy felt dread in the pit of his stomach. He didn't hate SapNap, per say, but there wasn't much positivity in their relationship either. Tommy knew there were worse people to find burning down his house, and he honestly wouldn't have cared if Shroud hadn't been in there. Tommy knew it was only fair that George burned down his house considering Tommy did the same to him.

"It's fine," Tommy muttered quietly. Purpled looked over at him in shock. Well, everyone did. Tommy didn't pay attention to them as he brought Shroud into his lap. His hybrid son looked worn out, but Shroud returned his father's light hug with a tighter one. Tommy leaned his head against Purpled's shoulder. It wasn't long before Tommy was asleep.
