I won't give up on you, never again

Tommy pulled his jacket closer around him, burrowing his face into the fur that lined his neck. He breathed in the stinging cold winds, his lungs protesting at the fresh air. He trudged through the snow. He avoided the small puddles of water that were meant for trident use. Tommy didn't own a trident, and even if he did, his body had not been given the clear to use it. Despite the amount of baths and meals he had been forced to partake in, the members of Kinoko Kingdom refused to admit that he had made a full recovery. He was an unhealthy pale color, and his ribs were still visible when he lifted his shirt. He tired out easily, and that's what they were most afraid of. Tommy couldn't care less if he accidentally crashed into the ground, but the others did not want him breaking his limbs.

They also didn't want him going somewhere extremely cold surrounded by people that barely tolerated him and would probably shoot him on sight. Tommy didn't let those good natured opinions get the better of him. He was going to see the Syndicate no matter how scared he was. He had to hope that Techno and Niki would set aside their personal grudges to tell Tommy how their plans were coming along. He really didn't know what he would do if they weren't strong enough.

Tommy felt a shudder run down his spine as the twin cabins came into view. His numbing fingers fumbled for the latch that opened the gate. He pressed it closed, keeping his breathing steady. He resisted the urge to turn-tail and run far away from this place. He sucked up all his courage to propel his feet forwards, one after the other. He grabbed the collar of his jacket, fiddling with the fur to alleviate his nerves. He stared at the door of the cabin, and like he expected, it swung right open. Like the last time Tommy had been here, Techno walked outside. He wasn't rushing this time, and his face didn't show any signs of anger. He slowly trotted to the edge of his porch, leaning against the wooden railing. He stared down at Tommy, and the blonde stopped short at the foot of the stairs. He heard Steve moving around. Carl whinnied somewhere close by. There were different creatures in Techno's basement that made noise. Tommy didn't pay attention to any of them.

"Have you made any progress?" Tommy asked, his words coming out in light gray puffs of warmth in the freezing temperature. To anyone else, Techno's expression was apathetic and uncaring. Tommy wasn't anyone else. He was Techno's younger brother who was forced to learn the nuances of Techno's expressions to make sure he was annoying his brother. At this moment, Techno was confused and weighed down by guilt. Tommy couldn't care less what Techno was feeling. Tommy had set the bridge between them on fire when he chose L'Manberg over Techno, but everything that had ever existed between them was swiftly destroyed the moment Techno helped Tommy's worst abuser out of prison. Everything they ever were had been irreversibly destroyed. Tommy was only here for Ranboo's sake. That was it, and that was all it would ever be. Tommy had long since given up on the idea of reconciling with anyone from his family- especially Techno.

"Phil thinks he's close to finding a way to resurrect without the book. Karl has been a good help, though no one knows why is such an expert at time and runic magic," Techno shrugged his shoulders. Tommy nodded slowly. That was good news. He also didn't know why Karl was a genius when it came to manipulating the flow of time, but he wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth. He would deal with his speculations when there was time to do that.

"That's really fucking good. I'm going to see Foolish, and convince him to help us. I really believe he can be of good use," Tommy said. With everything he needed to say out of the way, he turned on his heel to walk away. He ignored the heavy weight on his back as he retreated back the way he came. There was a lot he could have said. There were so many swears sitting on the tip of his tongue, ready to unleash the full force of their fury. Tommy held them back because it wasn't the appropriate time. Dream was still out there, and Ranboo was still dead. Tommy needed to solve both of those problems before he dealt with anything else. It wouldn't matter who he was allied with when Dream came for him. It wouldn't matter who his enemies were when Boo floated around the server without any understanding of emotions. Techno probably had similar thoughts. That, or he just didn't have anything he wanted to tell Tommy. That was an equally viable option. They both had damaged the other so thoroughly that any hope they had for rectifying their bond was salvaged, corroded brotherly love from the pits of their souls.
