Purpled
Purpled kept his hands gripping the edge of his seat to keep himself balanced. His body would be jerked to the side every time the carriage ran over a rock or turned down a new road. Purpled didn't know where he was, but as the trip became more uncomfortable, he knew that he wasn't near any cities. The roads were far too bumpy for any nobility to leave it the way it was. Purpled had never been one to complain about rough terrain, but he had never travelled in a carriage before. Even though the one he was in wasn't big or cushioned, it was still a luxury for the gladiators of Hypixel.
Across from Purpled was another gladiator. It was a girl who Purpled had talked with once or twice with before they were both shoved into the carriage. Both of their armor had been removed, but they had been left in their normal clothes. The girl had brown hair with a red glint in a braid down her back with roses wrapped in it. She was wearing a pink, long sleeved turtleneck with a deep red shawl over her shoulders that matched her asymmetrical skirt. She had leathers boots with criss crossed straps up to her knees. She normally had a leather shoulder strap, chest plate, and bracers around her wrists, but they had been confiscated before either of them had woken up. The girl was breathing deeply with her hands pressed against her stomach.
Purpled was missing his full body armor leaving him in a faded purple hoodie with jeans. They had even taken his boots, leaving Purpled in socks. It was expected since his shoes were reinforced with iron, but it was low to strip Purpled down to his barest clothing. Well, it was low to just kidnap him. He might not have had the best life on Hypixel. It was better than wherever he was being taken to. Purpled didn't know where he was going, but it couldn't have been any place that was good.
At Hypixel, Purpled and the girl- Hannah- were both gladiators that regularly fought in battles with Totems of Undying (magical artifacts that had reviving properties). Purpled wasn't famous enough to be paid well. Especially considering his young age. Even with that, Purpled had a decent life. It was predictable, at least. Purpled was a mid- to low- rank gladiator that fought battles on the weekdays except for Fridays. He stayed at the arena. During his off time, Purpled would either train or do some chores for the important betters of Hypixel for extra coin. Purpled got two meals a day, and a bed to sleep on at night. He could pay for a shower every three days. It wasn't the best conditions, Purpled knew, but it was better than living out on the streets.
"I think the Watchers found us," Hannah whispered, staring Purpled in the eye. Her eyes were a rich, forest green that shone in the sunlight that filtered in between the cracks of the wooden box they were trapped in. This was the first time either of them had spoken since they woke up. Purpled had been fine with the silence. He wasn't somebody who indulged in idle small talk. The only thing Purpled would talk to Hannah about was plans for escape, but he couldn't risk their kidnappers overhearing them. Hannah, on the other hand, had finally given up on keeping information to herself. If only Purpled understood what she was talking about. When he raised an eyebrow, Hannah leaned forwards with her elbows on her knees. She sighed before talking. "Have you ever heard of the Great Kidnapping?"
Purpled nodded. There wasn't a person who didn't know. Several years ago, dozens of children were taken from their homes by a mysterious group of magicians. It was implied that the children taken had dormant mystical talents that could hurt others should they emerge unexpectedly. While some governments had made an attempt to find the children or arrest the culprits, most people agreed that the children should have been given up for the greater good. Some families agreed that having their children trained properly would be the best option for everyone's safety. Other families continued to search for their children to that day. Purpled had met a few people searching for their lost son or daughter at Hypixel. He couldn't do anything for them. All he felt for them was pity.
Hannah continued when she had Purpled's confirmation. "We were part of it. The Watchers used magic to brainwash us into following them. You were just a baby at the time. I was a little older. Old enough to know that what they were doing was wrong. I was able to snap myself out of their control when I fell against a ground. I grabbed you and ran. I ran until I couldn't anymore. I ran until I was at Hypixel. I signed myself to be a gladiator. I gave you up to a woman that worked there. I kept my distance from you as to not alert the Watchers that we were in Hypixel. I still kept an eye on you to make sure that you were alive. I... I probably wouldn't have ever told you, but it seems the Watchers have found us."
Purpled found his eyes going wide. He didn't remember his parents. He barely remembered the woman that took care of him. Purpled's earliest memories were of fighting in the arena. That had been his entire life. Magic wasn't part of that. The Great Kidnapping wasn't part of that. Hannah wasn't part of that, not directly, anyways. Purpled had a lot of opinions about what Hannah told him, but he didn't get a chance as the carriage stopped suddenly. Purpled nearly crashed onto the floor while Hannah's head was slammed back into the back of the carriage. She let out a quiet whimper while rubbing the sore spot with her fingers. The door to their carriage was swung open to let in the sunlight they hadn't seen in hours.
A man wearing a uniform grabbed onto Purpled's shoulder. The boy was easily thrown out of the carriage. He landed on his feet, but riding in the carriage had made his muscles sore. Purpled tumbled to the ground as Hannah was pushed out of the carriage. She rolled past Purpled before flopping onto the ground. Hannah looked over at him with those gemstones for eyes. Purpled didn't let his facial expression change as he tried pushing himself onto his feet with arms. His arms were shaking as he managed to get onto his knees.
Someone stepped in front of Purpled. He looked up to see a man with a smirk. He was wearing a red poncho over black pants with gloves with runes sowed on his clothes with white thread. The man was looking down at Purpled and Hannah with a dark brown eyes that were filled some amused humor. "It has been years, young ones. The last time we had been together was when Miss Hannah took Mister Purpled with her. While I understand where you were coming from, it was a foolish decision. Without guidance, one of you could have manifested your magical capabilities. This would have catastrophic consequences on the home the two of you claimed... Hypixel, was it?"
The man leaned down on one knee to get a better look at Purpled and Hannah. The man tilted his head to the side. "It was even more stupid considering what potential the two of you share. It has been a lifetime, at least, since I last met a novice magician with this amount of untapped power. If this would have awakened out there, I have no doubt that a lot of people would have been killed in the aftermath."
Purpled took a sharp breath at those words. It was true that he had fought people for most of his life, but nobody had ever died permanently. There was always safety measures that kept the gladiators alive for another match. Purpled didn't like the idea of being responsible for somebody's death. What if a good person had died? Purpled imagined the children that would watch the matches. He remembered the young couples that visited the architecture of Hypixel on their honeymoons. Those people didn't deserve to die. Purpled didn't know if he could live with himself if he killed someone innocent. He could handle destroying the souls of bad people that hurt others. He often eliminated the Mobs that surrounded the arena.
"It doesn't help that both of you have strong Origins. Mister Purpled, did you know that your father was a Reaper? That makes you a hybrid with an Origin. It isn't uncommon for a person to have an Origin, but for one to be born of a Reaper? That's rather rare," The man said to Purpled before looking over at Hannah. "And you! You're nature as a Fae hybrid is astounding. Most Fae wouldn't touch a human, much less have their child. It seems your parents must have loved each other deeply. I must say that I've always been fond of those with unique Origins."
The man tapped Hannah's forehead. Her eyes misted over before she went unconscious. Purpled yelled out as Hannah was scooped into the arms of a guard. He tried reaching for her, but the man in red grabbed onto his wrist. Purpled lost control over his limbs. His face was instantly turned towards the man. The man remained smiling. "I do apologize for this. The Watchers do not wish for you to have memories outside of us. Therefore, I must temporarily erase these memories. Do not worry, one day they will be returned to you. For now, I shall lock away your past at Hypixel."
Purpled couldn't argue as the man tapped his finger against Purpled's forehead. Purpled tried fighting the sleep that washed over him, but it was too late for him. He didn't remember anything as he fell into the awaiting arms of the man in red.
