While Tommy still held some resentment towards his powers, Michael decidedly did not. The piglin hybrid clearly loved the amazing things Tommy could do. Tommy didn't know what it was that Michael sincerely liked. Was it the fact that the cold didn't bother Nether hybrids, and could be considered alleviating? Was it the fact that since Tommy could manipulate ice and snow, Tubbo and Ranboo were more lenient about letting Michael sit outside with Tommy? Everyone knew how often Michael stared out his window with a forlorn, depressive gaze. Tommy hated that look, so he made it his mission to bring Michael outside as often as he could. Did Michael love Tommy for doing that, so the powers were part of Michael's love simply because they were Tommy's?

Whatever the reason may be, Michael loved going outside, into the snow, with Tommy whenever the blonde felt okay with doing odd things with the ice. Tommy learned a lot about his powers through these playtimes. Tommy could create golems out of ice, and smaller phantom creatures out of snowflakes. He could launch snowballs and icicles as projectiles. He didn't need to wear warm clothing or worry about freezing to death in water. Tommy could use his powers to build a snowman, and use the winter wind to lift pieces of coal, wood, and the carrot into place. Tommy mainly used these skills to entertain Michael.

One thing that fascinated Michael more than anything was Skadi's animals. From arctic foxes to polar bears, Skadi did her best to keep tabs with Tommy while she was stuck in a meeting with the gods. Tommy despised the animals enough to make them feel threatened when they first came around. That morphed into simply ignoring the animals. Now, Tommy had easy conversations with his mother's court (his court, he thought warily). It was a bonus that Michael enjoyed watching the animals roam around Snowchester.

My prince, a voice rose across the sky. Tommy looked up to find an arctic tern flapping its wings with the wind before landing on a tree branch. Michael leapt to his feet at the sight. Michael ran towards the bird, jumping to reach the forked tail with his hands. Tommy lifted his hand with a knowing look at the arctic tern. The bird seemed to sigh as it landed gracefully on Tommy's fingers. I will carry out the requests of my Queen and Prince, but please do not let that child harm me.

"I've taught Michael how to treat animals, so don't get your panties in a twist," Tommy said in something barely above a whisper. It was hard enough not to cuss around Michael, but he didn't need the kid picking up his unsavory speaking patterns. The bird released another sigh before settling down against Tommy's skin.

Michael had wide eyes as he ran towards them. When he was a few feet away, he slowed down into a slow trot. Tommy smiled because Michael remembered what he had been taught. While any snow animal wouldn't dare run away from Tommy, they could get scared in the same way that normal creatures did. Tommy taught Michael to approach animals slowly to a) show he wasn't a threat and b) not to make the animals afraid. Michael stood to Tommy's side, opposite of the animal. That was another thing Tommy taught Michael. It was one thing to get close to an animal, but these weren't pets as much as servants for Skadi. Michael needed permission to be able to pet.

Tommy nudged Michael towards the arctic tern. The bird lowered their head for Michael to slowly place his hoofed fingers against the feathers in small motions. The bird shivered down their spine at Michael's touch, but Tommy knew it wasn't from displeasure. Birds hated to admit how much they liked being pet.

"See? I told you I taught Michael," Tommy whispered with a smirk. The bird managed to roll its eyes despite that not being possible. Tommy smiled brighter. This arctic tern had a red bill and legs meaning it was a breeder. Tommy wondered if the bird had a family. Did Skadi's birds stay with their family for life? Did they stay together for the most part, or stay in touch when they had to depart? Tommy couldn't imagine any family doing that.

Suddenly, the tern lifted into the air. Michael tripped back in surprise, but Tommy was able to catch the toddler. Tommy was about to give the tern a piece of his mind when he saw what had spooked the tern. The bird was trying to warn Tommy about the large, fire golem pushing trees out of its way to find Tommy. Ice sizzled into murky water beneath its feet as it screamed something.

"Inside, Michael! Inside! Now!" Tommy said as he pushed Michael towards his house. The toddler didn't seem to want to move, but the winter wind responded to Tommy's panic to push Michael forwards. Tommy raised his hand to make an icicle appear in the air. When Tommy shot it at the golem, the ice melted before it made contact.

"Shit," Tommy muttered as he searched his inventory. He didn't have any weapons or potions. Snowchester was supposed to be a peaceful place. Babysitting Michael was supposed to be peaceful. Tommy had enough of fighting. Not after he ran out of family dinner, and his family hadn't reached out to him. Not even the conniving Wilbur had made a move to monopolize Tommy's powers.

Tommy sent the winds to keep the golem stationary. There wasn't any damage being done, but it was enough to give Tommy a moment to think. Ice and snow would melt before it could pierce the golem. That was all Tommy had in terms of offense and defense. The wind couldn't do more than maneuver the golem into strategic locations. Tommy needed a strategy before he could utilize that skill. There was no way Tommy would force an animal to die for him. Tommy would joke about enslaving his mother's menagerie, but he would never be able to force himself to do that. This left Tommy with his first idea. He had to find some way to kill the golem. All Tommy had was snowballs and icicles as projectiles. What could he do with that when they melted before hitting? Unless... Tommy had an idea form in his mind.

Tommy raised his hands up. The snow lifted up from the ground. Tommy kept it a safe distance from the fire as he manipulated the shape. When Tommy was ready, he cut the wind off. The golem stepped forwards, and the snow shot towards him. The flakes melted into water that showered the golem like rain. With the fires temporarily out, Tommy used a large icicle to slam into the golem's chest. Without any radiating heat to melt the icicle, it pierced the chest of the creature. The golem groaned as the body collapsed into blocks of rock with lava-like blood.

The golem disappeared in a flash of burning hot air with shards of sand cutting at Tommy's cheeks. Tommy ducked his head down to keep himself from getting hurt. He was a lot more sensitive to fire associated elements since his ascension to half-godlihood. When Tommy opened his eyes, someone was standing where the golem once was. She was smiling at Tommy proudly, her arms opened towards him.

"You passed the test, Tommy. I've been allowed time to come help you," Kristen said as Tommy crashed into her arms. Kristen held Tommy close to her chest. The only warmth Tommy could tolerate spread in his chest. Kristen, someone closer to him than his own mother, was there. She wasn't some unreachable goddess. Tommy felt the wind ripple down his back like a soft hand. Tommy closed his eyes with a quiet exhale. Despite his anger with Skadi, she was still his mother, and no matter how annoyed he became with her, Tommy loved her. Skadi was one of the people that loved Tommy unconditionally.

Tommy's communicator beeped. He looked over at it. He stepped away from Kristen as he stared at the words: Can we talk? Kristen looked at him with concerned eyes. She reached for him, only to be met with a flinch that made Tommy stumble back. He would have tripped at the snow not cushioned his feet to keep him standing.

Philza Minecraft was one of the people that did not love Tommy unconditionally.
