Purpled leaned against the doorway with dark eyes staring out the window towards the bright lights of Las Nevadas in the distance. Even though he was physically there, Purpled felt his thoughts drifting to places that his body couldn't follow. His senses numbed as his mind eye scoured every what-if about how the day could have gone. Purpled's morbid mind began trying to determine what Shroud's funeral could have been. It was sickening that Purpled had a lot of it planned out. When his mind wasn't in that dark place, his instincts itched to go after Kinoko Kingdom for what they did several days prior. Purpled imagined several ways to painfully torment SapNap, George, and Karl for almost murdering someone special to Purpled. The only reason why Purpled was here instead of getting revenge was because Tommy had forgiven the three would-be killers. Tommy even asked Purpled to stay when Purpled wanted to dish out his anger on some training dummies in the Las Nevadas gym. If it wasn't for Tommy's quiet pleading and Shroud's whimpering at the idea of Purpled leaving, Purpled would have been long gone.
"Purpled?" A voice called. It took Purpled a minute to register the voice, but his body was in motion as soon as the first syllable was heard. Purpled came to Shroud's room. It was illuminated by a dim lamp on Shroud's nightstand. It was enough light for Purpled to see Shroud half-asleep in his bed with his hands on top of each other. Tommy was right behind him, curled into his son with a comforting hand around his waist. Tommy was leaning on his elbow with his chin squished against his palm. Tommy jerked his head towards the spot left in the bed. Purpled raised an eyebrow. Tommy rolled his eyes, but Shroud's lips were trembling as he reached for Purpled. He thought himself a stubborn man, but Purpled absolutely crumbled at Shroud's request. Purpled laid on top of the comforter, turning towards Shroud and Tommy. Shroud grabbed onto Purpled's hoodie with a light grip.
Purpled rested his head against the pillow, watching Shroud's eyes fully close. Purpled saw Shroud's chest rise and fall at a slower rate than when he was awake. Purpled smiled softly as Shroud went asleep. He looked up at Tommy to see that the blonde was staring worryingly at the darkness across the room. Purpled saw something painful in that gaze, like Tommy was searching for an answer that would cost his soul. Purpled grabbed onto Tommy's hand that was hanging limply between Shroud and Purpled. Tommy blinked as he looked back at what was in front of him. His expression softened as he looked between Purpled and Shroud. Purpled gave a cheeky grin that made Tommy huff in amusement with another eye roll. Tommy dropped his other arm, crashing oh so ceremoniously into the other pillow on Shroud's bed. Tommy didn't let go of Purpled's hand, and Purpled felt Tommy's grip lighten as he went asleep. Purpled planned on leaving for Las Nevadas that night. That was his last thought as he felt himself slipping away from the realm of wakefulness.
——
When Purpled woke up, he wasn't in the same position he was when he fell asleep. Instead of on his side, Purpled was flat on his back more center than pushed to the edge. Shroud was laying on top of him, the boy's head pressed against his chest with his limbs flailed outwards starfish style. Tommy was hugging Purpled's arm like it was a stuffed animal. Tommy and Shroud were both out cold without any signs of being ready to wake up. Purpled looked at them both with something more than amusement. Something warm spread from his heart to the tips of his fingers. It was the same feeling that came when Shroud had called him Dad and Tommy had given him that happy smile that bore no hatred. It was a strong sense of belonging. It was like Purpled finally found where he was meant to be. Purpled had found a family, in simplest terms. Purpled found two people that he could finally swear loyalty to and have that given to him in return. More than that, he found two people who he could cherish and would love him back unconditionally. Purpled didn't want the moment to end.
It did, eventually, end. Shroud woke up with an energy that no person should ever have in the morning. Purpled had to wake Tommy up as he sat up to play with Shroud. Purpled wanted to tell Tommy to go back to sleep, but a dark look flitted across Tommy's face. Purpled understood perfectly. With what had happened regarding Kinoko Kingdom, Tommy wasn't ready to leave Shroud alone, even if it was with Purpled. Because it was pointless to argue, Purpled determined that he would make them breakfast while Tommy entertained Shroud. Tommy gave him a thankful smile as he carried Shroud into the main room.
