15 - Useless Pawn
Luke was upset. The glare that's been on his face for the past 24 hours was a prominent feature that proved so.
Being on Ashton's 'side' was good...until it suddenly wasn't.
He saw the new change as an opportunity to better his standing with the beauty, his love. It seemed like it would benefit himself and push him more towards his goal of winning over Michael's love.
But now Luke wasn't sure.
He didn't trust Ashton, which created problems.
Sure they worked together now in terms of turning against Calum in order to possibly get closer to Michael. But Luke knew nothing about Ashton.
He barely found out about Ashton's standing with the Kowoskis last night at the same time Calum and Michael did.
He assumed Ashton was a powerful man who was involved in some not so innocent things. But he never would have thought it was that intense and extreme.
What exactly was Luke getting himself into?
At the end of the day he only wanted true love. And now he was deep into some dangerous and dark world full of secrets and hate.
But...if he got Michael then it would all be worth it.
The whole reason why Luke was living inside of this world was because of Michael. He started working for Calum once he met the beauty, since he wanted to be close to the one he fell in love with.
Michael seemed to be a man who attracted in those who were hurting. Just like how he had met Calum in the middle of the cemetery when he was missing his sister, Michael had met Luke at a hospital when the blue eyed man was losing his mother.
Michael comforted him during the worst night of his life. Luke would never forget that.
He was nothing before Calum and Michael. He was living on scraps while trying to provide for his mother, on the verge of being homeless. But Calum gave him a job where he was able to push himself more into Calum's and Michael's lives as he cheekily got closer with both of them.
He would never admit it, but he would consider Calum a friend of sorts. And—of course—he loved Michael; Luke would do anything for him.
But now...Luke didn't know if he would stand with Ashton for Michael.
"Why are you mad?"
Luke looked up when he heard this question. He saw Ashton now in the same room as him, which was one of the offices in Ashton's huge house.
Luke was nonchalantly sat in the small couch placed in the side of the room, wanting to get his space away from the man. But Ashton had other plans when he made his way more into the room and then leaned against the side of the desk in front of Luke.
Luke didn't know what to say.
He wasn't scared of Ashton, but he didn't want to express what he was truly feeling to and for the other. If he told Ashton that he was mad at him then it could always be the possibility of the end of him.
"Tell me what's wrong." Ashton ordered, "Or I'll give you back to Calum."
Luke's eyes narrowed and his teeth gritted.
"I'm not a pet, Ashton." He said angered, making Ashton quirk an eyebrow, "You can't just give me back to Calum."
"Yes I can." Ashton chuckled out like it was funny to him.
"No you can't!"
"And why not?"
"Because we're a team. And I'm a human being who happens to have his own opinions and who is in control of his own actions."
"No offense, Luke, but I personally don't have any care for your opinions."
"So this whole agreement to a partnership means nothing?"
"I never said that."
"Then what are you saying?" Luke basically yelled out, completely annoyed and confused.
"We work together, yes, but I'm still in charge. I'm running this and I always will be. You're a pawn in the game. It helps me show Calum that I'm perfectly willing to take what's his."
"I'm not Calum's. Me being on your side means nothing to him."
Ashton laughed out again, only making Luke more angered.
"If you weren't Calum's then you'd be long gone by now. Calum kills every man and women who even thinks of the beautiful one in the wrong way. Why and how would he keep you around when he's knows you're in love with Michael?"
"What are you trying to imply?"
"I'm not trying to imply anything. I don't know Calum on a person level and I don't know what kind of relationship you two have. But I do know about his business and how he is with beauty. The fact that he hasn't killed you yet is...intriguing."
"I don't trust you." Luke deadpanned, "And I never will."
"Well that's an absolute tragedy." Ashton said sarcastically, making Luke suddenly stand up from his seat.
"Fuck you, Ashton! You're self-absorbed and all you care about is yourself. I'm done being your useless pawn. I'm more than that."
Without any other word being said, Luke stormed out of the room and then he stormed out of the house.
He walked through the night and the streets with his mind burning in anger. All his thoughts were full of his dislike for Ashton and the whole situation.
Now he had no idea what he was going to do...
The only thing he could do was to keep walking, thinking about the beauty and how much love he possessed for him. It was the last aspect keeping Luke from not giving up.
But he seemed to not have to make his own mind up about what to do and how to do it when a sudden car pulled onto the side of the road in front of him.
Five men suddenly got out of the car and approached Luke, forcefully grabbing him and dragging him towards the vehicle.
He tried to fight them off, but he was unfairly outnumbered. Luke growled out in annoyance once he was forced into the car and felt and saw a cloth bag go over his head.
When would he ever get a break?
