20 - A Useful Little Thing
It had been two weeks.
Two weeks of constant glares being passed from Calum to Michael, and from Michael to Calum.
Luke really didn't want to ask about it.
The best possible route for him was to keep himself on Michael's good side, providing the beauty with a positive outlet in order to make him feel safe and protected.
But curiosity eventually killed the cat because he couldn't keep his thoughts and questions away about the struggling couple.
"You and Calum..." Luke hesitantly started, making the blonde look at him from across the kitchen table while they were eating dinner together, "Do you want to talk about it?"
"He's a fucking asshole." Michael said as soon as Luke asked the question, "I don't know who he thinks he is or what's going on with him, but I honestly don't care. He has no right to treat me like this."
"How is he treating you?"
"Like I'm some pathetic, innocent child. He's acting like I can't help and that I'm the reason why all of this is happening. I can't help it that I'm hot and people want to fuck me!"
"You can say that again, babe."
Michael gave Luke an unimpressed glare, but he didn't mention anything about it. He instead only continued his rant about Calum.
"He's so fucking immature. He started this whole argument with unneeded anger, and he hasn't even tried to talk to me. I specifically told him that we can talk as long as he doesn't put me down and once he stops acting so stupid. Of course that has resulted in him not speaking to me ever since that night happened two weeks ago."
"That's extreme, kitty. He should be treating you way better than that."
"I'm aware." Michael huffed, crossing his arms upset, "He's an ass."
"But I'm not."
"I know." Michael grinned brightly at the man who sat across from him at the table, watching a genuine smile start to form on Luke's face.
Michael might be beautiful, but Luke was so so so pretty. He had the brightest blue eyes, deep dimples, and a cheeky grin that always lifted Michael's glim mood into something more related to calmness.
"If you ever need anything I'm here. I always got you. No matter what happens I have your back, kitty."
Michael's heart began to increase when he heard this proclamation from Luke and when he saw the seriousness cloud his blue eyes.
Luke was always being sincere when he declared these promises to Michael. And Michael was finally starting to see that.
"Thank you, Luke."
Luke paused from where he sat, staring into those green eyes he loved. He also felt the same increase of his heart.
"You've always been here for me, even when I was the ass of the situation. Calum and I...we're a crazy pair and I know it's hard to keep up with us. Thank you for never giving up on either of us, but especially for not giving up on me."
"It's...It's not problem, kitty. Anything for you." Luke tried to say steadily, but he suddenly became nervous as he spoke with Michael.
Things were slowly changing around them. Michael used to only be full of banter before, but he was becoming more warm and welcoming towards Luke. And obviously Luke was being affected by this loving change, feeling his heart beam against his chest, feeling the uncomfortable sweat coat his palms, and feeling the strong butterflies fly throughout his stomach.
"Have you heard from Ashton at all?" Michael asked, moving away from the emotional subject.
"No." Luke answered, "He has no use for me."
"Hmm what a shame for him...You are a useful little thing."
Luke blushed lightly from the statement, not used to all these sudden compliments and not used to Michael's honesty.
"Are you going to speak with Calum?"
"No." Michael huffed, "He can speak with me first."
"And if he never does?"
"He will...eventually."
"But if he doesn't?"
"He will." Michael said determinedly, trying to prove to himself that Calum will man up and try to fix things.
Calum was stubborn and he always has been. Michael knew this and of course they've had their fights before, like all couples do.
But this one was different from the others, causing shivers of pain and insecurity to constantly run down Michael's spine.
Why was Calum so...mad? And why was he taking it all out on Michael?
Michael didn't know and even though he tried to act like he was angered by this whole situation, he was truly sad and he was feeling guilty.
He didn't want to fight with Calum, but he also wouldn't allow him to treat him like he was. Michael just wanted his loving, possessive Calum back. He didn't want this angered, jealous version. It didn't suit him right.
"I'm sorry you're going through this. You don't deserve it."
"Thank you, Luke." Michael sent him a small smile, still caught up in his negative feelings.
What if...What if things never fixed themselves?
Michael was slowly forming back into someone he promised himself he never would be again: he was becoming his old insecure, quiet self.
He wasn't always confident like he was now. Dressed in all black, oversized clothes was what he used to always do instead of being dressed in these tight-fitting dresses and skirts.
He never held love for his body, thinking he wasn't good enough and that he was just plain old ugly. But it all changed when Calum entered his life. Calum made him gain self-love.
Michael didn't only save Calum, but Calum also saved Michael. They saved each other's minds.
Michael helped Calum morn his sister, getting him through the darkest point of his life. And Calum helped Michael through all the darkness he had flooding his thoughts, eventually pushing through the negativity and giving Michael the much needed confidence he now held.
Michael had to push back the tears as he sat there in front of Luke, staring down at the food with guilt and disgust clouding his mind and stomach. God please no, I don't want to feel like this again.
