I kept up deep breathing all the way back to my apartment, along with many sighs. I was worn out, exhausted, tired of this never ending confusion that I was left with when it came to Luke.
One minute he hated me, wanted nothing to do with me, regrets everything yet looks like it hurts him to say those things, and the next he's drunk, begging me to come see him because he misses me.
I pulled into my parking lot, taking one last deep breath in before getting out and heading up. I didn't know what to expect, maybe Calum had finally let him in, I wasn't sure.
Of course, my questions were answered when I got to my floor to see Luke outside the door, looking quite confused, also like he was going to pass out any minute, I guess there goes hoping he'd sobered up any but the empty liquor bottle next to him explained everything.
"Luke, oh my god. C'mere." I rushed over, my old, caring best friend instincts coming into play.
I helped him up, realizing the door was locked and the reason Calum wasn't letting him in was probably because Calum wasn't here. I heard Luke mumble a couple things while I jingled with my keys but I finally got the door open, letting Luke stumble in first.
"Luke, go sit on the couch."
"How about you come sit on my cóck." I almost laughed.
"I'm going to ignore that you said that, seriously, go sit on the couch for me."
After a bit of arguing he finally decided to go sit down and stay while I walked to the kitchen. I pulled out a cup, pouring water into it for him before searching around for some aspirin.
"Luke, drink this, all of this, and take these." I handed him the cup and pills, waiting for him to do as I said.
He did and once he was done I was still standing in front of him as he sat down, so he snakes his arms around my waist, pulling me down into his lap, making sure my face was as close to his as possible without touching.
He placed his forehead on mine, closing his eyes, and rubbing small circles on the end of my back, humming quietly. In the moment, I felt like I could stay like this forever.
"You know I'm in love with you." Luke slightly chuckled, forehead still on mine.
I barely had time to process this, he's drunk, that's all it is, right? He couldn't possibly mean what he just said, he's being delusional, that's the only logical explanation.
"Always have been." He whispered before closing the space between us and locking his lips with mine.
I willingly kissed back, how could I not? This was the same guy who has yeah, put me through hell lately, but I have had feelings for him for ages, feelings I hid to spare our friendship.
I started shaking my head back and forth while kissing. "Luke, you're just drunk. You don't know what you're saying." I whispered.
"Drunk words, sober thoughts." Was the last thing mentioned from this conversation.
"Babygirl, I'm so tired." The pet name sending chills down my spine.
"You can sleep in my room, c'mon."
I took his hand, letting him stand up before heading him down the hall to my room. Once in my room I threw him one of his old shirts I still have to put on.
"Put this on, and lay down." I whispered, exhausted.
"You sound tired." He looked at me sympathetically, I could tell he was sobering up.
"I'm always tired." I'm not even sure he heard me.
After I went into my bathroom to change, I came out to see Luke standing there, eyes close to closing, looking almost lost like he didn't know what to do.
"Luke, lay down on my bed." I lead him over to my bed as he got in.
I whispered a goodnight before turning around turning the nightstand light off, ready to walk away and go sleep in Calum's room or on the couch, I wasn't sure.
"Eves, please stay." I heard his scratchy voice speak.
"Luke, I-"
"Just please." He whined.
I slowly stride over to my bed, hesitantly climbing under the covers. He instantly pulled me into his side and I tensed, not use to this anymore.
"It's okay, it'll all be okay one day, I promise." He kissed the top of my head before drifting off to sleep.
I didn't think I would be sleeping anytime soon, and I was very well correct because when it hit 12am and I heard the front door open then close and lock, I pulled away from Luke's grip to go out and check on what I assumed to be, Calum.
"Hey, Cal." I rubbed my eyes.
"Oh, hey. How'd the date go?"
"It got interrupted."
"How- is someone in your room?" Calum questioned, peeking around me, I slowly nodded.
"Is Derek in your room?" He asked, jaw clenched, I shook my head no.
"Then who... Luke?" He whipped his head around to me, waiting for a response, I once again nodded.
"And how'd that happen?" We sat down on the couch.
"Derek and I were having a good time, I was beginning to ask about him before my phone start ringing, it was unknown so I stupidly, yet luckily, answered. It was him, he was drunk, outside of our apartment complaining you wouldn't let him in, because obviously you weren't even here, so I had to lie to him about you being sick and rush back here."
"He doesn't give you a break." Calum sighed.
"I know."
"I'm sorry." He said, patting my knee before standing back up.
"Things will get better."
"Everyone keeps saying that, I'm just wondering when it'll actually happen."
