Centuries - Fall Out Boy

----------------------------------------

Luke woke at seven the next morning to the sound of his alarm getting incrementally louder every ten seconds. Luke slammed his hand on the noisy machine, shutting the sound off.

"Fuck." He moaned as he rolled over in bed. He had probably gotten around three hours sleep maximum and there was no way he would be able to stay awake during his lecture.

Luke grabbed his phone from where it was charging and called Michael.

"Hello? Luke?" Michael answered with a yawn.

"I need you to do me a favour." Luke blurted out getting straight to the point. Michael groaned.

"What is it this time? I'm just about to leave for my lecture." Michael was studying Social Policy and Criminology, it was more work than he'd originally thought but enjoyed it nonetheless.

"Perfect" Luke burst out, "I really don't feel well enough to go to my lecture, do you mind letting this girl from my class know that I won't be there? She lives in the flat opposite. Please." Luke dragged out the 'please' hoping that Michael would give in.

"Fine." Michael sighed, "What's her name?"

"Thank you, thank you, thank you! Her name is Tamsyn."

"You so owe me for this." Michael said, however Luke could tell that he wasn't being serious through his jokey tone of voice.

"Love you!" Luke called out. Michael hung up.

Luke sighed happily, before curling up under his duvet once more, rolling over and falling back to sleep almost immediately after his two minute phone call.

Five hours later, feeling much better, Luke awoke to find multiple texts from Michael.

Michael: done, she said she'd let your lecturer know and told me to tell  you get well soon

Michael: also why didn't tell me she was hot omg

Michael: got her number, score!!!!

Luke just rolled his eyes at the texts, he knew Michael wouldn't try anything on Tamsyn, he may seem like a boobs obsessed teenage boy, but in reality he was sweet and was very respectful of girls. Luke sent a quick reply to Michael's texts.

 Luke: thank you

Luke: she is quite hot but she's my kind of friend so it's a bit weird

Luke: please don't embarrass me, how did you get her number anyway??? I've never been able to :(

Over the next few weeks Luke started to wear the costume he had made under his ordinary clothes. Obviously in England it was still freezing so it was easy enough to keep it covered up, it also acted as a thermal layer, keeping him warm.

It made things a lot easier for Luke, as he was able to quickly duck into dark alleyways and derelict buildings to pull off his outer layers of clothing. Usually he left his clothes and bag hidden where he changed, although this quite often resulted in Luke wandering around for half an hour trying to find them.

Luke used his new costume and abilities to aid the police where possible, despite their negative comments. It was generally small crimes like someone stealing from their local convenience store and stopping muggings.

There was some things that Luke was proud of himself for doing. He had stopped multiple car crashes, which was terrifying, yet thrilling and rewarding. He had also stopped many people from getting hit by cars.

Traffic in London was almost always horrendous, but rush hour was the worst, with pedestrians crossing the road dodging cars, taxis and buses. Luke had lost count of the amount of people he had had to sweep off the road to stop them from getting run over.

It made Luke feel great to see how he was able to help people. Stopping criminals as well as saving people from the wrath of London traffic, it made it worth it to see people appreciating what he was doing for them.

He may not have been saving lives so to speak, but he was making London safer little by little, stopping bullies, helping an elderly woman cross the street.  It didn't matter how small and petty the task was, Luke would do it.

Luke's heroic actions were not going unnoticed, he was still quite a common topic in the lecture theatre before class (which he had actually attended on time for three weeks straight, it was a huge shock for everyone).

He also still captured a lot of media attention. Newspapers documented his every accomplishment. Particularly picking up the use of his costume (especially minus a cape) and were still speculating over his identity after three weeks. On a more positive note, they were referring to Luke as a superhero which made him feel awesome.

Not only did he have newspapers talking about him, people had also created online forums in which people were able to share their encounters with spider-man and comment on his actions. Luke visited these sites often to see how he had positively affected strangers.

Luke had also discovered a lot of interest on social media. He often trended on twitter if he had done something particularly heroic and there seemed to always be someone trying to figure out who he was and how he had acquired his powers. This made Luke slightly nervous as there was already a few theories circulating, however none of them were accurate.

One social media platform that had embraced him was tumblr. He had blogs dedicated to him, Luke was shocked that people found him inspiring enough to put the time and effort to dedicate an account to him.

Whilst mindlessly scrolling through the site one afternoon Luke had come across a nickname that made him laugh. He became quite fond of the name 'Spidey'. He was also quite impressed by drawings people had created of him.

Luke was usually not one who enjoyed attention and so through the use of a separate identity he was able to gain a lot of publicity and still be plain old Luke at the same time.

He dreaded the possibility of someone finding out who he was and the attention that would come with it. He helped people for the sake of helping them, not to become rich and famous.

Meanwhile the police force were still being bitches. Whenever Luke would turn up at an incident they would always yell at him for getting involved, despite the fact that Luke was almost always there before the police and had most likely already solved any issues.

It was obvious that Luke was a great asset to the police force, yet they were too stubborn to admit it, claiming that he was a 'nuisance'.

Unfortunately for them, Luke's popularity amongst the public meant that they had to stop actively trying to arrest him, and was no longer wanted for questioning about the Tiffany & Co. robbery.

Luke was, however, popular among the female police officers. They gave him a lot of attention and seemed to want to defend him from the negative comments of the male officers. In fact Luke seemed to have quite a lot attention from the female population in general (and quite a few males too).

This was also true even when he wasn't spider-man. Luke had built up quite a fair amount of muscle over the last couple of months and he looked good.

It meant he was able to get a few cheeky snogs when he eventually went out to clubs and parties with his flat mates.
