The Kids Aren't Alright - Fall Out Boy
————————————————————
Luke's heart was racing. He paused for a second, trying to bring it back down to a normal speed. This was proving difficult as he was so wound up.
It had been an intense couple of weeks. Four murders, all within six miles. The police were stumped and Luke had no idea what to do. He was concentrating his efforts on monitoring the six mile area. It unnerved him that it was so close to his halls. It was almost as if they knew and were trying to get at him.
On purpose or not it put Luke on edge. Whoever these people were, they were good. There was no pattern to the murders as far as the police and Luke could tell. No connections whatsoever, all different ages, genders and ethnicity.
The killers were professional. The police were unable to find any DNA at all. It was obvious there was more than one because of how clean and quick they were. There was no way one person would be able to kill someone and clear up without help.
All the victims were killed in the same way, making it obvious that it was he same people each time. It was frustrating for Luke. He never was able to get there on time and hadn't been able to track them down at all.
It was heartbreaking for him to turn up minutes after the victim had died when there was nothing he could do but look down at the victims cut throat and hope that he could be quicker next time.
The media and general public were particularly critical of his efforts. Everywhere he turned there was articles on how he was letting the city down which just made him feel even worse.
Thankfully, Tamsyn was one of the few who were understanding and sympathetic of him, she, along with a few of his avid supporters, kept reminding him that he wasn't a detective.
For the past two weeks she would invite him in every night and give him a hot drink of tea to help him wind down. Luke was really appreciative of her comfort, particularly on the few nights when he had had to see the bodies of the victims.
They hadn't really kissed over the past few weeks, only small, quick pecks. Luke was too stressed out and he didn't want to keep kissing Tamsyn when she still didn't know who he was.
The past couple of weeks he had come very close to coming clean, but stopped himself every time. He felt that if Tamsyn had asked, or had tried to take off his mask he would have let her and told her the truth. But she hadn't bothered him about it recently, not wanting to argue with him when he was so stressed.
It had been four days since the last murder and that put Luke on edge, he had a bad feeling that they would strike again soon, most likely that night or the next.
Luke crouched on the top of a building for ten minutes until he had finally calmed down and then carried on circling the area.
