Chapter 24 - EMBER 2

Maedi - 19.03.20XX

"You don't have to tremble so much, everything will be fine, don't worry." John said

"I don't know John, I hope things work out as you say. How is your uncle by the way?" Remi asked

"He is a very kind person, even if he looks tough on the outside. You'll understand once you meet him." John replied.

Then, seeing his uncle enter through the door of the café, John waved to him, and his uncle came over to the table where they were sitting.

But the point is, Mark was accompanied by someone else Remi knew.

"YOU?!" Remi got up from her seat, banging her hands on the table, and shouted.

While John and Mark couldn't understand Remi's behaviour, the person next to Mark spoke up.

"Long time no see, Remi" Valerie said

John and Mark were taken aback by Remi's sudden departure.

"Are you two acquainted?" Mark asked

"I KNOW HER VERY WELL! BECAUSE SHE'S VOLCAN!" Remi shouted

"Who?" John asked

"Volcan, the one who attacked me last night." Remi shouted again

Taking one look at Valerie, John realized, she really did look like Volcan. But her Aura was different from her.

"Little lady, I don't know who you've confused me with, but I'm not Volcan." Valerie said

Remi didn't believe that

"DON'T LIE TO ME!" Remi shouted again

Then Valerie created a small cube-shaped barrier in the middle of the table.

"I know the person you call Volcan, because that person is my sister." Valerie deactivated her ability after what she said.

After realizing what happened, Remi bowed her head and apologized to Valerie.

"I'm so sorry for the way I treated you, please forgive me." Remi apologized.

"No need to apologize, I understand you." Valerie said

After this brief quarrel was over, Mark broke in.

"You must be Remi, miss, I'm Mark, one of the leaders of EMBER. This person next to me is my right-hand, Valerie. Although you two seem to know each other." Mark said

"My niece introduced me to her earlier." Valerie said

"Now that your disagreement is over, can we sit at the table and move on to our main topic?" Mark asked

After the discussion was over, 4 people sat at the table. Mark was the first to speak up.

"Remi, you know our purpose here. John told me he told you all about EMBER." Mark said

Remi slowly nodded her head in the affirmative.

"So what's your answer after knowing all that stuff?" Mark asked

"Before I answer, there's something I was wondering about. Miss Val, you said you and Volcan were sisters. So that means..." Remi tried to ask her question, but Valerie already knew what she meant.

"Volcan is my sister and Arlo's mother. That's what you were trying to ask, right?" Valerie answered her question with a question.

"Wait a minute, Arlo? What does Arlo have to do with this?" John asked

"Because Arlo is my nephew. He introduced me to Remi before, she came to me to inquire about his older brother." Valerie replied

"Understood" John said

"But why are you two on different sides, even though you're a brother? There's an irrationality here." Remi asked curiously.

"Because I am deeply attached to authority. But my sister is not like me. John has told you, my sister was with them when Spectre left authority. But whoever she is, whether it's a member of my family, who defies authority, must be punished." Valerie said in a cold voice

"Well, does Arlo know about this?" Remi asked

"No, no. Unlike others, I try to keep my nephew away from such important matters." After saying her word, Valerie glanced at Mark out of the corner of her eye.

"Anyway, enough talking about my family. Remi, we came here to hear your answer. What's your answer?" Valerie asked

Remi paused for a second before answering. Then she took a deep breath and began to speak.

"John told me that EMBER didn't kill anyone, contrary to what was said on TV. Can you prove that?" Remi asked

"How do you want us to prove it?" Mark asked

"Get me to talk to my brother. Then I'll join you." Remi said

"No problem." Without thinking, Mark took the phone out of his pocket, after searching for a while, called the person registered as 'X-Static' in the directory and gave the phone to Remi.

Remi held the phone to her ear as soon as she picked it up and waited for someone on the other end to speak.

"Hello, Mr. Mark. What were you calling for?" Rei asked

"R-Rei..." Remi couldn't control her tears after hearing Rei's voice.

"REMI! How can you talk to me now?" Rei asked curiously.

But Remi couldn't hear what Rei was saying because she was crying. Then Mark took the phone from Remi and hung up.

"Do you believe us now? We didn't kill anyone, including your brother." Mark said

"I-I see. I accept your offer. I will join EMBER." Remi said

"Okay then. John, you're in charge of Remi from now on. Is that okay?" Mark asked

"Okay, no problem for me." John replied

"Then before I go, John, I need to speak to you in private. Will you come with me for a moment?" After Mark's request, John and Mark got up from the table and started talking outside the café.

"Now John, I want you to be honest with me. Was it because you told Remi everything because you liked her?" Mark asked

John could not hide his embarrassment at this question, but began to answer.

"I don't know. When I got back to Wellston after my suspension from school, the first person I met from school was Remi. The expression on her face that day was very familiar to me. Remi felt lonely. I promised to help her that day. Frankly, I don't know what my feelings are for her. Do I like her, just plain, Is it my friend or something else? I'm not sure about that, the only thing I'm sure of is that I want to help her." John replied

"I see, John. You're so lucky Remi is a god-tier. If it weren't for god-tier, we'd be talking about something else right now." Mark said

After the uncle-nephew conversation was over, Remi and Valerie left the café and then the two parties said goodbye to each other and went home.
