Chapter 29 - Arlo

 Bleakburn - 25.03.20XX

 It was past midnight and John and Remi were still looking for Arlo and Seraphina.

It had been 10 minutes since they had left the Factory. Under normal circumstances, neither of them had a chance of catching Seraphina. But John knew very well that if Seraphina used her ability for a long time, it wouldn't be to Seraphina's benefit. So they continued their search without losing hope.

Thanks to John's passive, if anyone was around using his ability, John could sense them.

But since they were in a town, even at night, countless people were using his ability, and John could sense the aura of each.

So John shifted his focus to Seraphina alone. Fortunately, after all that time, John knew Seraphina's aura very well.

"Did you find the trace?" Remi asked

"Not yet." John replied

The two had been searching since leaving the factory, but they had yet to find a trace.

As they continued their search, a barrier suddenly appeared around John and Remi.

This was Arlo's barrier.

Arlo had been chasing Seraphina since she left the factory, but couldn't keep up with her speed, aiming to give her an opportunity to escape.

He waited in the background for John and Remi to arrive. When the people he was waiting for appeared, he made his move and created a barrier around the two of them.

John hadn't noticed Arlo as his focus was on Seraphina.

"I can't believe either of you. You really betrayed us and worked with EMBER?" Arlo asked angrily

"John, I expected you to do something like this, but Remi... you let me down." Arlo continued

"Arlo listen to me, we may have betrayed you, but we did it for your own good." Remi tried to talk to Arlo.

"What good are you talking about? Remi, I don't know if you're aware, but you work for Rei's killers." Arlo said angrily and then began to slowly shrink his barrier.

Arlo was well aware that he couldn't beat John. His only purpose was to slow him down.

While Arlo was shrinking his barrier, a black barrier appeared inside the barrier, preventing the other barrier from shrinking.

"Arlo, I don't want to waste my time here with you. Either you remove your barrier now or I force the pieces out of here." John made his offer to Arlo

Arlo did not answer

Then John punched inside the black barrier. The punch he threw didn't have much effect because he only had Arlo's ability at that moment.

'Luckily, it takes time to copy someone else's ability using my memory. So I have to hurry and get out of this barrier quickly.' John thought

John threw a few more punches in the same place but eventually cracked it a bit.

Just as a crack appeared in the barrier, John finally copied Isen's ability from his memory and used all his strength to punch the barrier again.

The barrier was still in place, cracked but still no gap.

Just then, Remi activated her ability.

After seeing Remi activate her ability, John copied her ability as well, and then John and Remi simultaneously hit the crack. This blow had finally broken the barrier.

With the barrier-breaking, Arlo, who was already injured in one arm, had taken more hits and was on the verge of losing consciousness. Using Remi's and Isen's ability, John sprinted past Arlo, leaving only Arlo and Remi behind.

"Remi, I really can't believe you. You seriously betrayed me, Rei, by teaming up with that monster." Arlo, who was on the verge of losing consciousness, spoke.

"No, Arlo, I haven't betrayed anyone, you're the one who betrayed authority. Besides, John isn't a monster." Remi said

"So he brainwashed you huh. Remi, I really can't believe you." Arlo said

He then formed another barrier around Remi with his last remaining strength. For the first time, Arlo had created another barrier right after his barrier shattered.

Arlo, who already had very bad wounds, however, had reached the limit of his strength. But he also knew that Remi could not break the barrier alone. His purpose in doing this was to take revenge on Remi who betrayed Rei.

Remi was wondering what to do. She couldn't break the barrier alone, she knew it was useless waiting for Arlo to lose consciousness, so she started to think of a plan.

The barrier was slowly shrinking as Remi thought about it. Remi's time was running out.

Then Remi felt a surge of electricity from Arlo. The electric current was coming straight from Arlo's phone. 

Remi had developed her passive well in the past period. She could now control the electric current she felt.

Remi blasted Arlo's phone using the electric current she felt.

The impact of the explosion took a big hit and Arlo fell on one knee, closing the barrier as he no longer had any strength left.

Arlo fell to his knees, Remi used her speed to hit Arlo in the face with her knee and slammed Arlo's head on the ground with her hand. Remi did the same thing to Arlo as John did to take down Arlo in the Joker vs Royals fight.

Arlo was lying on the floor, bloodied, unable to even straighten up anymore.

Just before he passed out, Remi looked into Arlo's eyes for the last time.

"You're wrong, Arlo, I don't work with Rei's killers. Because Rei... is still alive." Immediately after hearing these words, Arlo lost consciousness and passed out.

With Arlo falling, only Seraphina remained.

John continued to search for Seraphina in the alleyways of Bleakburn Town, possessing the abilities of Remi, Isen, and Arlo.
