Chapter 25 - First mission

 Wellston - 20.03.20XX

After the talk yesterday, Remi made her decision and started working for EMBER.

But as if that conversation hadn't happened yesterday, John and Remi had come to school normally today.

After the school day was over, John came to the safe house as usual to get the list from Isen, but the list was still empty. It was nice that the students at school stopped bullying so quickly, of course, but John had doubts.

'There's only one explanation for why they stopped bullying so quickly, fear. Fear of the King visiting them. It doesn't always go like this. I can keep this job until I graduate, but after I graduate? I need to find a permanent solution to this.' John thought

"John?" Seraphina asked for to call him

While John was lost in thought, Seraphina tried to call him

"John, can you hear me?" Seraphina asked

"S-Sorry, I didn't hear you say." John said

"I said my sister wants to meet you this weekend. Are you available for the weekend?" Seraphina asked

"Sure, it's okay with me. But remember what I said, she'll apologize to me first." John said

"Okay okay, I'll tell her." Seraphina chuckled while agreeing

After the conversation between them was over, they both made their way to their rooms. But as John made his way to his room, he paused for a second to check his phone's text message.

"You're going to Maedi Town tonight." The message was from Mark.

'We were there just yesterday. It can't be normal for someone to be there to sell drugs after a day, right? Anyway, duty is duty' John thought

John stopped thinking and dialled Remi's number on his phone. 'She wasn't at the safe house just now, so she's still thinking about what happened yesterday.' he thought and called Remi

After Remi picked up the phone, John told her about the two's mission tonight. But just like John, Remi was surprised that the assignment was in Maedi Town.

"We were just there yesterday, don't you think that's a bit abnormal?" Remi asked

"I'm aware, but I don't think it will be a problem. I've been to this type of assignment a couple of times before you. I haven't been given a wrong location so far." John replied

"Okay then, where are we meeting tonight?" Remi asked

"Come to the front of the school wearing something that hides your identity, we will meet in front of the school." John replied

Then John turned off his phone and went to his room to get ready.

It was night and the students were asleep, except for the two students, John and Remi. John and Remi were awake at night to go out for their assigned mission.

They both left their rooms to meet in front of the school gate, ready for their duties. The first person to reach the school gate was Remi. She was wearing the X-Rei costume she wore when he went out with Blyke and Isen before.

After waiting for a while, Remi was frightened at first when she saw John in the Joker mask in front of her.

"Don't be afraid, it's me, John." John tried to calm Remi down.

"I can't help it, what happened that day still haunts my dreams." Remi replied

"I'm sorry, okay, I shouldn't have been so harsh on you." Then John looked carefully at Remi's costume and slapped his hand on his forehead.

"Remi, I don't want to say anything this time, but don't wear this next time. It looks ridiculous." John said

Then Remi looked again at what she was wearing and answered John.

"I don't care, Blyke gave it to me. I'll keep wearing it." Remi replied

"Anyway, we'll talk about that later. Let's go now." Then the two of them set off for the train to Maedi.

 Maedi - 20.03.20XX

When they got off the train, Remi turned to John and asked who their target was.

"Who is the target?" Remi asked

"Someone named Winston. He's a piece of cake judging by his information. We also have his address of residence. But we have to be careful, we don't know who's with him." John replied

Then Remi nodded and the two went to Winston's residence.

When the two of them arrived in front of Winston's house, they realized that it was actually an apartment building not much taller than the other houses nearby.

"Let's get the job done quickly." John said, then Remi nodded, and the two of them entered the apartment.

About 20 minutes later the two of them were sitting on the train to return to Wellston.

Winston was an easier opponent than they both thought. It took less time to beat Winston than to find the apartment. So they easily defeated Winston and smashed the two bottles he was holding and sent Winston to the authority.

Remi, who hadn't had enough sleep lately, couldn't take it anymore and fell asleep on John's shoulder on the Train.

His heart involuntarily began to beat faster as John realized that Remi was sleeping on his shoulder.

After John calmed himself down, he texted his uncle and reported for duty. After Mark got the message, he texted John a confirmation and then called Valerie.

"They've done their first mission, what do you think?" Mark asked

"I wouldn't expect anything less. They're both very powerful. But giving them a fake mission, in the same place the day after the meeting, don't you think is a bit suspicious?" Valerie asked

"Don't worry, I did this to test Remi and she passed the test. I'll give them real quests from now on." Mark replied

"Okay then, you know better, boss." Valerie answered and hung up.
