Christmas: the most wonderful time of the year. This year, Annabeth and Percy were in their own apartment. Not fighting monsters, wrangling campers, or even driving around town from party to party. It was going to be peace and serenity leading into a beautiful morning with Percy's family.
"Don't look! Don't look!" Percy screeched as Annabeth rounded the corner into the kitchen.
She stopped and took in the mess strewn over the countertops. "That's a lot of ribbon."
There were indeed a lot of ribbons. Percy was desperately blocking a package from Annabeth's view, but the glitter, bows, and ribbon could not evade her sharp grey eyes.
"Don't worry," she smiled. "I won't sneak a peek at my present."
Percy sighed in relief. "Good. This is the extra extra special one. I would hate to ruin the surprise."
Annabeth's cheeks flushed, and she promptly found a reason to go into the living room instead. Percy had come up with a Leo Valdez-level kind of idea, at least according to him. This year, the couple would have two gifts for each other. One set would be for bringing and opening with Percy's family in the morning under the tree. The other two presents would be for opening in private, just the two of them. The idea was to exchange some more, well, adult, presents out of the embarrassing view of family members.
The blond girl flopped down on the couch and started flipping through the channels. Hallmark movie, Hallmark movie, Hallmark movie, and the list continued. She sighed defeatedly and yelled to Percy, "Hey I'm getting ready to go to sleep. Come to bed whenever you're finished being an elf."
She heard Percy's gasp of fake offense from across the apartment, but she was already closing the bedroom door when he was still sliding on the tile in his socks.
Annabeth occupied herself in some reading after changing into the ridiculous owl pjs that her boyfriend got at Target. After a little while passed and the ruckus from the kitchen quieted, Percy crawled into bed with her.
"I'm excited for Christmas," he whispered in the dark.
His breath tickled her ear, and she reached up to wrap an arm around his chest. "Me too."
His green eyes reflected the nightlight they always kept on in order to never be in the pitch-black again. They crinkled with concern, and Percy shifted his pillow around. "I hope you like your presents."
Annabeth smiled. "As long as it's from you."
That seemed to satisfy Percy, and he yawned a sleepy "I love you" and zonked out. Annabeth followed closely behind him, her heart giddy as they waited for Christmas day.

Sunlight peeked past the curtains onto the pillows as Christmas morning began. Annabeth opened an eye and rolled over to check the clock. 7:43, just when she wanted to wake up. Against her sleepy boyfriend's complaints, she slid out of bed and started getting ready for the festivities. Eventually, Percy followed suit and stumbled into the bathroom.
"Merry Christmas sweetheart," he mumbled, half-heartedly raking a comb through his hair.
Annabeth paused in her skincare to gift him a kiss. "Merry Christmas. Now hurry up; you know Estelle is bouncing off of the walls by now."
Percy smiled warmly and picked up the pace. Soon, teeth were brushed, coats were on, presents were packed, and the couple headed to the subway with their bag of gifts.
Percy spared no time making Santa jokes and passing out sugar cookies to people on the streets that he thought needed one. One old man tugged at Percy's sleeve as he passed by on the platform.
