It's the twelfth time this month and Annabeth is beginning to wonder why she even waits up for him.

Sunday evening they were supposed to go to Central Park for a picnic. Tuesday night Percy said he would meet Annabeth at the docks. Then again last week for ice cream and for the movies and campfire and roller skating and dinner date after dinner date. And of course, tonight, she was blown off from stargazing.

The blond wrapped her arms around her knees and just waited on the couch. The clock ticked on and still no sign of Percy. Annabeth had just started to doze off when keys turned the lock. She darted upright and glared at the figure with her grey eyes.

Percy stumbled in the door with his tie undone, his hair messy, and his face flushed red. He paused when he saw Annabeth. "Hey wise girl," he leaned down to kiss her cheek. "I'm so sorry I missed another date night. Maybe Friday?"

Annabeth couldn't breathe she was so furious. How dare he just waltz in here like nothing is wrong. "Percy, we need to talk."

For his part, he did look very confused. "Okay, why?"

And that is when Annabeth lost it. "You think I haven't noticed? How you stumble in here with your clothes all rumpled and act like nothing is amiss. I want to ask 'It's midnight! Where the hell were you?' but I already know the answer."

She jumped off the couch and grabbed Percy's undone tie. "So who is it? Who's the oh-so lucky girl that gets to have a taste of the great son of Poseidon?"

His green eyes sparkled with laughter. "You."

Annabeth narrowed her eyes. "What?"

Percy smiled softly. "Annie, I'm not having an affair with anyone. I know i've been missing date nights and coming home late and looking messy but I thought you would have more trust in me than that."

His girlfriend scoffed. "Oh yeah, I'm just going to ignore all the signs of a cheater because you want me to? Nice try seaweed brain."

He laughed and wrapped his arms around her. "Wise girl, that's not what I am saying. I'm saying you should have just asked me."

"Maybe," Annabeth mumbled as she unwillingly snuggled further into Percy's arms. "But you still haven't given me an explanation."

A gust of breath heaved from the other. "You won't like it."

Annabeth pulled back to look her boyfriend in the eyes. "If you aren't cheating on me, then we can deal with it."

Percy scratched the back of his neck nervously. "I've been working two jobs lately. My mom's newest book was a flop and it's hard to support a family off of a high school teacher so I thought I would help out with the rent. You know, just let my mom worry about getting the groceries and stuff and I can worry about the apartment."

The blond stood there in shock. "Percy," she murmured. "Why didn't you tell me? I can help-"

"But that's just the thing," he interrupted. "I don't want your job money paying for my family. We split these apartment bills because we both live here and that's hard enough as it is. I-" His voice broke a little. "I need you to hold down fort here until I can get my mom and Paul back on their feet."

Annabeth grabbed his hands. "You listen to me right now. Sally is my family. I practically lived there when you went missing. I know you're desperate to help but you have to realize that there are better ways then working all day since 7, not even coming home, then working more until midnight."

Percy's tired eyes gazed into her grey oRbS (lmao i die when people use this word for eyes) "The job pays good money though."

She furrowed her brows. "What's the job?"

"Cleaning the boats down at Scully's," he said with a hint of mischief in his eyes. "I may cheat a little and use some gifts of mine but nobody is ever out there. The hours are odd because it depends on if the boats even need cleaning so I don't know if i'm needed until some rich guy takes his yacht out for a spin."

Annabeth couldn't help but laugh. That stupid genius. Genius for getting a job like that but stupid for staying up hours to do it. "Well let me help. I have mornings free now that Greg hired a new bimbo who picks up calls. I can get another job."

"Annie, you love sleeping in." Percy protested.

"I love you more"
