Halloween was a time for frightening tricks and pranks of many kinds. From harmless jokes to bone-snapping accidents, Leo loved them all. All the rest of his friends knew this but how far is too far?

The arena rang out with the sounds of metal on metal as demigods battled goodnaturedly. Percy smirked when his girlfriend left an opening in her defense. Her shield was way too high. Honestly, a rookie move for such a seasoned fighter.
He lunged for her side but was delivered a crushing blow that squashed him to the ground instead. Percy was eating dirt with Annabeth's shield pressed against his back.
"You look like a turtle," Annabeth snorted. She stopped and sniffed near him. "Kinda smell like one too."
Percy reached back and tried to grab his wise girl but Annabeth pressed her knee on his neck. "Eurgh," he gurgled. "Can't breathe Annie."
She let him up and they both lay in the dirt for a minute. Campers' swords and shield clashed all around them, but the two were in their own bubble. Not literally, because they were still on land. Once Percy had caught his breath, he turned to his girl and smiled at how stunning she looked. Hair with pieces of hay in it from the stables, dirt everywhere, and a little smudge of grease right under her eye. Absolutely breathtaking to Percy.
Annabeth turned and looked back at him. "What are you looking at, seaweed brain?" she mumbled.
Percy only smiled and shrugged in response. He hauled himself to his feet and offered a hand to Annabeth. "We both smell. How bout we go clean up and meet back at the lake?"
"Sounds good to me." Annabeth couldn't help but smile. He was such a dork with dirt in his hair, crooked armor, and little imprints of gravel in his cheek. But he was her dork.
They discarded the training armor and headed back to the semicircle of cabins. With a quick kiss on the cheek, Percy went to his cabin, and Annabeth went to hers.
As she stepped in the doorway, a low buzz filled the air. Some of her siblings were playing a very strategic game of Clue. Most of them looked vaguely murderous and Annabeth wondered if that was why her boyfriend always suggested not a board game.
The smell of worn books and graphite followed her as she went to her bunk. Various projects were spread across the bed and bits of scribbled ideas. A polaroid of Percy and herself was pinned on the wall.
"What do you mean it wasn't Colonel Mustard??" Malcolm hollered from the opposite end. Annabeth smiled at her godly family. She then bent down to open her trunk but froze. The lock was open, which was odd. Annabeth slowly lifted the lid and a small switch flicked.
All at once, a hundred tiny black spiders began scurrying out. Annabeth screamed and fell backward, but they just kept coming. So many of them, the arachnids were on her legs, crawling up her sleeves, digging through her hair. Hundreds poured out of her trunk and swarmed her.
Distantly, Annabeth heard her cabinmates cry out as the creatures spread. Her mind grew hazy and flashes of memories bounced through her head. Her ankle wrapped in bubble wrap, beautiful tapestries, the horrible monster who made them. A burning owl seared through the fog and Annabeth closed her eyes in fright. There were too many spiders. Her body couldn't take any more of it and shut down.
