Summer
Flower crowns and lemonade
Under a tree in the shade
Giggles and swimming
Tank-tops and cuddles
Summertime was Percy's favorite
Fall
Fluffy scarves and crunchy leaves
Excuse to cuddle for a cold breeze
Kissed noses and flannel
Boots and jeans
Fall was Percy's favorite
Winter
Watching snowflakes fall
Trying to count them all
Giant blankets and snowmen
Ice forts and hot cocoa
Winter was Percy's favorite
Spring
Winters last chill hanging around
Silly faces in a tree, hanging upside down
Baby rabbits and bright flowers
Everything green and promising
Spring was Percy's favorite
But looking back, it didn't matter where he was
Or what season it was, or even if he was feeling blue
Because nothing really mattered as long as he was with you
Annabeth looked up with tears in her eyes. A cry stuck in her throat, choking her. "Thank you Sally." she managed to whisper. She didn't make a sound after that. The blue draped coffin went up in flames and the spring flowers placed near it went too. All the letters and tokens were now ablaze. But still, Annabeth didn't make a sound.
Hugging her stomach, she walked to the shore. It was almost unfair how her Percy had been alive one minute and gone the next. One second he was smiling, then he was doubled over in pain as lethal poison pumped through his system.
Annabeth gritted her teeth and fought back tears. It was meant for her. It was her drink Percy had taken a sip out of by accident. Someone knew that the way to make the son of Poseidon suffer was to destroy the two most precious things in the world to him: his Annabeth and his baby.
But it had taken Percy instead. The dark-haired seaweed brain had to go and die right at their table. She could still hear him pleading for her to stay back because the drink had spilled too. She could still feel him turning away from her kiss because there was still poison on his lips. Annabeth's throat was still raw from screaming.
The blond rubbed her belly to remind herself why she hadn't just kissed her love. Why she hadn't just gone with him. But the child in her needed to live. Their baby would grow in her nursery, be read to by just her mother, be driven to daycare by just her mother, have Christmas card photos with just her mother, be dropped off at the movies with friends by just her mother, do all the things life had to offer to her but just with a mother. Not with a father.
"It isn't fair," Annabeth whispered. "How am I supposed to do this on my own?" She wasn't sure what she was talking to her baby, the ocean, the gods, Percy. A sick feeling twisted deep inside as she imagined Percy being reborn, loving someone else, having a baby with someone else, growing old with someone else.
Then a sweet sea breeze swept over her. It smelled like him. If she closed her eyes she could feel Percy standing with his arms wrapped around her, rubbing her belly gently. The baby kicked as if she felt it too.
