Chspter 12: Casting

Chapter 12

Katniss P.O.V.

The next day when we come to school, the guys are the laughing stock. Everywhere we go students laughs at them and their faces turn red.

I smile devilish throughout the whole day since I'm enjoying when they're being laughed at.

The video I posted on YouTube has spread on every social media network in the matter of twenty hours, so now the whole town has seen them covered in what looks like poop.

"Great! Just great!" Finnick sighs as he pops down on the chair beside Annie at the lunch table. "Now I'm in two videos on the Internet that's being laughed at".

He's referring to the video Cato posted when Finnick, Annie, Mellark and I fell onto each other on the floor because I ... Well that isn't important.

"This one is your own fault!" I say putting two fries with mayonnaise in my mouth.

"Yours you mean?" Finnick asks.

I narrow my eyes as I look at him.

"I didn't force you to read my diary Odair!" I say. "And I've told you, mess with me or my girls, and you're in for a world of pain, you should be thanking your girlfriends, I wanted to do something very different but they didn't let me!"

The guys doesn't say anything. They just shut up.

"And for the record, you didn't really seem to hesitate to read your girlfriends diaries either", I say. "Which we kinda already knew!"

"So you never cheated on us?" Gale asks, voice full of shame.

Madge takes Gales big hand in here.

"No, but you had to be punished for what you did to Katniss", she says. "It's not okay to read a girls diary where she puts her deepest and inner thoughts".

"Don't you guys know that I can be hurt too?" I ask trying to keep my voice steady and they all look up at me. "Look I know that I seem all tough, and yeah I am tough because I know how girls are treated in this world, like objects, but that doesn't mean that this object doesn't have feelings, and when I caught my best friends reading my diary, I got hurt!"

And with that I slide my food tray up on the table and stand up. I leave the table and walk out of the cafeteria.

Sometimes the guys seem to forget that I am just a girl with feelings.

The rest of the day goes pretty slow actually. I rot in the classes and can only think of how I want to go home.

I still get those hate letters, but the others think that it has stopped. I told them that it stopped and they believed me. But I take the letters before anyone can see them.

I'm not even mean to Mellark anymore. I'm actually pretty kind to him if I can say so myself. Okay well besides calling him Mellark. I'm not ready to call him by his name yet, he's still Mellark to me. Baby steps.

I don't know what I did to those people who sends me those letters. Why can't they just tell me what they're thinking to my face? I know why. They're cowards. That's all they are. A bunch of cowards. It makes me angry to get them though. I'm trying not to think of it.

"Katniss!"

I jerk and realize that Annie is waving her hand in front of my face.

"Huh?"

I look around and realize that the whole classroom has been emptied.

"The class is over", Madge says.

I see that the group are the only once who are here. Clove is not though.

"Where's Clove?" I ask as I gather my things.

"She ran out of the classroom as soon as the bell rang", Glimmer shrugs.

I nod and stand up. I yawn and walk out of the classroom with the others following me. Annie hooks her arm around my arm and we walk towards our lockers.

"Katniss wait!" Finnick says and I turn around.

"What?" I ask tired.

"I'm sorry", he says. "I'm so sorry I read your diary out loud to the others, I really really am so sorry".

That's what I've been waiting for. For an apologize.

I nod and Finnick sighs relieved and pulls me in for a hug.

"But don't do it again, okay?" I say with my head on his shoulder.

"I promise I'm not gonna do it again", he and says.

"Good", I say as I pull away.

"It takes a big man to apologize", Mellark says and hits Finnick's arm playfully.

"Yeah what can I say? Soon I'll start losing my hair", Finnick jokes.

The group starts laughing.

We all stop laughing when Clove comes running towards us.

"Hey", she says.

"Where were you?" Cato asks.

"Just ... Somewhere", she says innocently and slips her hand into Cato's big one.

"I sense that you did something none of us will like", I say, and Clove looks down at her feet.

"What did you do?" Annie asks.

Clove mumbles something. None of us hears what she says.

"What?" Madge asks.

"I signed us up for the casting to the school play", she says low.

"Wait you did what?" I almost shout.

"And the casting is in ten minutes", she says. "We're off from our last class".

"Clove!" I shout. "Why did you do that?"

"Because our group is falling apart and I wanted to make our bonds stronger, so we could get closer!" She says.

"We all live together!" I point out. "How much more closer can we get without everyone sharing one single bed?"

The guys starts laughing at the thought. I smirk and shake my head.

"Come on we have to be there in five minutes", Clove says and starts pulling Cato with her.

The rest of us sighs and follows them with angry steps.

We reach the auditorium and see that half the school is here. We take our seats and wait for the director to walk out on the stage.

After about three minutes she runs up on stage in her abnormal high heels and golden wig together with a golden puffy dress. Effie Trinket. The schools music and drama teacher. And also our home room teacher.

And so it begins.
