Chapter 49: Graduation

Chapter 49

Katniss P.O.V.

This is it. This is the day. Graduation.

I managed to pass all of my make up tests, so I can graduate. And according to my I teachers I did very, very well.

I actually have a secret I haven't shared with anyone yet. I want it to be a surprise. Especially for Peeta.

I'm standing in front of my full length mirror. I've gained weight since I came home. My cheeks are still a bit sunken, but not as much as when I left the hospital, and in a few weeks I hope my cheeks aren't sunken anymore. The black dress I'm wearing ends just above the scars on my thighs so they're fully visible. I don't care, because I'm not ashamed, it wasn't my fault. My hair is shiny again, and right now it's flowing down my still bony but not too bony shoulders. I'm still bony even though I've gained weight. That's how I know how skinny and malnourished I really was. But I have gained weight and I look better. I don't look sick anymore.

"Katniss?" I look to the doorway and see Annie. "How are you?"

This is when I realize that I've started to cry.

I walk up to mine and Peeta's bed and sit down on the edge.

Annie walks up to me and sits down beside me.

"What's wrong?" She asks.

"Nothing I guess", I sigh, wiping my tears away. "I was just thinking... I've gained weight, but my cheeks still looks sunken".

"Katniss that doesn't matter, you're very beautiful", Annie says.

"How can I be? I'm bony still and my cheeks, no Annie, I'm not", I insist.

"Yes Katniss you are", she says. "Stop this please, you were beautiful when you were in the hospital too, you just can't see it, but you are very beautiful".

"But these scars", I say looking down at my thighs.

"Only shows how brave and strong you are", Annie says firmly.

I sigh. I still don't agree with her, but it's not worth arguing with her today. She won't give up and I won't give up and we'll be here all day and argue about this.

"We're really graduating today, aren't we?" I ask.

"Yes we are", Annie says smiling at me. "Four years and now we're graduating. This last year flew by though right?"

"No kidding, it flew so fast", I say standing up. "But I'm glad I had you by my side all the four years".

Annie stands up, still smiling at me.

"Me too", she says and hugs me. "You're always going to be my best friend".

"You're always going to be mine too", I say. "I love you Annie".

"I love you too Katniss".

"Oh please kiss!"

I sigh and turn towards the door.

"Finnick!" Annie sighs.

Finnick and Peeta are standing in the doorway. Finnick is looking hopeful and Peeta is just smiling, while hitting Finnick's arm playfully.

I walk up to my man and he wraps his arms around me. He kisses my cheek and I smile.

"Ready to go?" Peeta asks.

"Ready as I'll ever be", I sigh.

Peeta lets go of me and instead takes my hand and leads me down the stairs. Annie and Finnick follows us down to the others. They're all waiting for us in the living room. Even Tyler. When did he get here? He wasn't here when I walked to the bedroom to change. Oh well.
