Chapter 41: Shock

Chapter 41

Peeta's P.O.V.

"Peeta?"

I look to my side and see that Ella has made her way up to me. She was walking beside Annie and the girls, talking to them. Now she's here beside me.

"Yah?" I ask, not looking at her anymore, but ahead.

"Is it true that you can't sing anymore?" She asks.

Now this surprises me so much that I look at her again. I raise an eyebrow.

"The girls told you?" I ask. She nods. "It's true".

"Because you love Katniss so much you're now so heartbroken?" She asks.

I nod shortly. That is what it is. I'm too heartbroken to sing.

"That's actually really beautiful even if the situation is very bad", Ella sighs. "Do you ... I mean do you think that I'll ever have that?"

"Have what?" I ask.

"A boy who loves me as much as you love Katniss", she says and a red color spreads across her cheeks.

I think about it for a second. I want to tell her no, just to be mean, but I can't do that.

"I do", I say unwillingly. "You know why? Because you're not really the person you want everyone to believe you are in school, the fact that you're here to help us to find Katniss even though it will cause problems for your family shows me that you actually have a really good heart".

She smiles at me. I think this is the first time we've talked this way and the first time she gives me a sweet genuine smile. I do believe in everything I said. And I'm not a person to hold a grudge. I think life is too short for that. If a person apologizes you should accept the apology, because life is too short to keep enemies and be angry for too long.

Ella did apologize and not everyone have the courage to do so and that's a fact. Only brave people can admit that they've done wrong and apologize. So yeah, I do think that Ella will find a boy who loves her as much as I love Katniss.

"The only thing you need is a little fate and a change of attitude", I joke and hit her playfully on the arm.

"Thank you Peeta", she says. "It means a lot, especially since I've been such a bitch to Katniss and slut towards you".

"Ehhy that's in the past", I say. "You can't keep looking backwards if you wanna move forwards".

"That's so true", Finnick says and pops up beside me. I jump and hit his head.

"You scared the crap out of me", I say.

I think I've gotten new hope. Everyone has gotten new hopes to find Katniss. Now that we know who kidnapped her and that Ella knows where it is.

Hope is really important. Without hope, you break down until you're nothing. Until you have no life left in your whole body. Until you're a shell. A living shell. That was me. But now I've gotten new hope. Now I believe again. I believe that we can find Katniss and get her home alive.

I don't think I ever realized how strong impact hope has. You can't live without hope.

"That way", Ella says and points to a small pathway that leads us off the road and into the woods.

"The house is placed inside the woods?" Annie asks.

Ella nods.

"It is", she says with a low voice. This has to be hard for her. "There's a road leading from the house to the beach".
