Chapter 33: Remorse

Chapter 33

Katniss P.O.V.

I slam the door shut as I leave mine and Peeta's room in anger.

Peeta asked me to move in with him, and I thought it sounded so cute when he asked me, so I said yes. So I moved into Peeta's room.

But right now I'm so angry at Peeta. His mother came back. Of course. She didn't stay in Canada even if mr Mellark told her to. She came to the bakery when mr Mellark wasn't there. I was though, and Peeta. She came and started yelling at Peeta and at me. She even hit me one time and Peeta started yelling and his mother started to hit him and he just stood there and took it.

That's what our fight today was about. Me yelling at him about how he doesn't care about himself and letting his evil mother beat him. And Peeta yelling back at me, saying he can't do anything. He can. But that would put his mother in jail. In our state it's actually illegal to beat your children. And I can understand that Peeta doesn't want to put his mother in jail, it's his mom after all, but soon he'll have no choice.

I also know that mr Mellark has filed for a divorce, but if she isn't put away, she can always come back.

I don't want Peeta to get hurt. It hurts me really bad to see him in pain and to see the bruises on his skin.

"Katniss come back here!" Peeta shouts after me, and I hear steps behind me. Peeta grabs my wrist and spins me around. "Don't just walk away when things get a little tough", he says. "Are you gonna do that every time?"

"Well what the hell am I suppose to do?" I practically yell in his face.

"Stay and work out the problem", he says.

His grip around my wrist tighten.

"Let go of my wrist Peeta, it hurts", I say angrily.

Peeta lets go in a second.

"I'm sorry, but it makes me angry that you just walk away and slam the door in my face", he says.

"I'm not gonna have this fight with you Peeta! I mean it! I love you too much to see your bruises, so what am I suppose to do?" I yell.

"She's my mother Katniss! I want her put away but I can't put my own mother in jail!" He says, raising his voice. "The woman gave birth to me".

"And after that let your father take care of you alone! Look Peeta I know she's your mother but the way she behaves towards you is not okay with me", I say and step away from him. "And until you've figured out what you want to do, don't talk to me".

And with that I leave him. Before I turn around though I see his hurt and stunned face and something into me breaks as I run away from him.

I run down the stairs, and away from everyone. When I come down, the others are staring at me, of course they heard me scream.

"Katniss!" Annie screams after me.

I ignore her and run for the front door.

"Katniss wait..." I hear Peeta's voice but I just slam the front door shut as I run out of the house and into the sun.

I run down the street, not really knowing where exactly to run.

Somehow I find myself at the end of the city. The woods just looks so welcoming, so of course I turn my steps there.

As I walk in the woods I feel a calm feeling spread throughout my body. The anger starts to leave my body, but it fills with sadness instead.

The big fight I had with Peeta just plays inside of my head. Minutes before I stormed out of his room, I threw his phone at him and it landed on his head. I feel so bad. I felt like that girl who hated him again, who was mean to him. That everything that happened between us had disappeared. That's why I ran out of there, I couldn't face him. Not after what I did.
