Maverick wasn't scared about Kairo and Logan. He had the power to stop them if he needed to. It was the waiting game that bothered him the most. When would they get here? What do they want? It wasn't until two days later that Maverick was woken up by a sound outside. At first, the sound was quiet and subtle. It could have easily been mistaken for just the rustling of the leaves. But soon after, Maverick heard the sound again. But louder. One of the boys was trying to pick the lock on the front door. Maverick guessed it was Logan. He climbed out of bed and got dressed. He came down the stairs and felt a cold breeze. He saw the open front door as he turned the corner to the hallway.
Kairo and Logan were lurking outside. They couldn't enter the house without Maverick's permission. A spell he put on his home when he first found out about Logan. "Are you gonna let us in?" Kairo asked as he stayed trapped outside. "You both can enter, '' replied Maverick, watching them closely as they walked over the threshold. Logan shut the door behind them and stood by the fire. Ignoring the many chairs that Maverick had in his living room. Kairo and Maverick sat down at the little coffee table. "You don't seem pleased to see us, '' suggested Logan. Maverick just glared at him and turned his attention to Kairo.
"Why are you here?" he asked. Kairo took a deep breath and glanced at Logan before answering. "We need your help. We think there are hunters after us. It seems impossible to get them off our trail.". Maverick looked from Kairo to Logan, confused. "You need help from a couple of human hunters? Since when was that a problem for you?". His tone of voice was cold. But he wasn't bothered. He knew that a problem like this could be solved easily by Logan killing whoever it was. And everyone knew that. Vampire hunters want to prove their worth by going after the most dangerous ones. No matter how many people they have killed. The boys bought it for themselves. Kairo and Logan exchanged another look. "We don't think they're human," said Kairo, looking at Maverick. "They're vampires... Maybe." he shrugged and looked at Logan again. But he gave no sign of jumping in and helping to explain. "They're faster than normal vampires. Or, in fact, any creature that we have seen. But they aren't trying to attack us. They are purposely trailing behind, watching us. We need to find out what it is they're looking for''. Maverick rubbed his head, still trying to wake up. He shook his head in disbelief. He looked at Logan, who had gone suspiciously quiet. "I didn't think it was true, '' he said. Kairo leaned closer, curious about what Maverick was revealing. "I know what's hunting you."...
