johnny is smart. he's got multiple diplomas, graduated third in his class as a cum laude, has a master's degree in finance and business, but what he doesn't have is common sense.

it started a few years ago after hyunjae's death. it brought him an incredibly painful amount of sorrow and boy, he prayed to find any solution that could mend his broken heart.

when he stumbled into that night club, his plans were to just drink and then drive home and possibly get hit by a truck. he hadn't considered the twins at the time, he was too busy mourning over the loss of the love of his life.

he cried and cried, for days and weeks. jaehyun was getting fed up even.

"get your shit together!" he scolded, rubbing his temples. taeyong couldn't even do anything besides comfort him and give him advice that he knew johnny wouldn't even pay attention to.

johnny was hopeless. he sipped his whiskey, blurring out the upbeat music the dj was playing. he wasn't in the mood for anything.

that is until, a girl slid into the seat next to him. she was pretty. her voice was sultry and she had a great way with words. johnny grew interested in her.

they talked, and talked. got to know each other— favorite place in seoul, favorite food, and the like. johnny swore that this woman was going to mend his shattered heart. he knew it deep in his gut. as he talked about his business in software and technology and how he was the ceo of the company, yoomin's eyes sparkled.

at the time, johnny just thought how amused she was because of how passionate he was as he told his story.

they spent that night in a nearby hotel— tipsy, but drunk in each other's 'love'. johnny had already finalized that he was really going to make it official with this woman. she was amazing in his eyes, the star of his life.

but when he mentioned his kids to her, her face darkened. he convinced her that they were all going to love her, and she believed him. soon, he told her that she could live with him and that she could start a new chapter of her life with him and the kids.

he treated her as he did with his ex-husband— gave her what he also had. he changed her life because he loved this woman. he saw a future with her where they would grow old and have grandchildren running on their lawn as their kids watched in satisfaction with their significant other.

he didn't care when his mom and dad said that she was only with him for his money. he didn't care when jaehyun and kun continued to pester him if she was really the one he was going to settle for. he all ignored their words because he loved her.

past tense, loved.

when johnny first was hit with reality, it was when he had introduced her to everyone in the household. the ones who were the most hostile were the kids. they ignored her questions, despite being scolded by their dad multiple times— and continued to be the mischievous brats they were towards her. winter had given her dad and 'his woman' the cold shoulder for months as well.

yoomin came crying to him saying that she didn't know how to be a mother, but he had reassured her that they just weren't used to new people and that eventually they would warm up to her.

second time, was when she joined johnny at work, much to his close friends' disappointment. taeyong was the most disappointed alongside doyoung and lucas. jaehyun was just as disappointed in his friend, but he had given up trying to go against his relationship so he just decided to support them, despite having bad feelings about the woman.

the third time, was when winter had cried to him about how yoomin had stole some of her cosmetics simply because they were too expensive for a 13 year old like her. johnny decided that he would just buy winter those cosmetics again. it was no biggie, but when he talked to taeyong about this, he had made a valid point; "why would a grown woman steal from a teenager just because it's too expensive for her age? isn't that odd, john?"
