johnny forgot how difficult it was to take care of a pregnant omega.
ten was having constant mood swings, from crying about one of his socks that was missing it's pair, to laughing his ass off watching the broom fall off the wall, or to getting mad at johnny for brushing his teeth too loudly which results in him getting yelled at the omega in aggressive thai.
he vaguely remembers when hyunjae was struggling with the kids, crying to his friends almost everyday because he said that johnny was bad at taking care of him. much to his guilt, johnny does admit that he did a shit job at taking care of his late-husband.
he wants to stop, rewind and turn back time just to see hyunjae again and apologize for being such a shit husband to him. a sigh escapes his lips as he looks over the backyard garden, admiring the new plants that the girls had planted yesterday.
"what are you doing here?" he hears someone ask him. winter slides the glass door from the kitchen open, walking through and shutting it back. "just getting some fresh air," the alpha replies, scooting over so that his daughter can have some room to sit. winter plops down next to him.
"you only go here when you're thinking about uncle hyunjae,"
winter points out. she was always an observant little girl growing up. johnny just pulls on a tight-lipped smile, knowing he's been caught. "yeah, i am." he simply replies, fidling with his thumbs.
"i'm guessing this is because you're scared of doing the same thing you did in the past to mama, no?" winter softly asks, an apologetic look in her eyes. caught again by his wonderful daughter. johnny nods, looking at the sunflowers that stood tall amongst the various flowers.
"yeah. i kinda avoided him during his pregnancy because i wasn't exactly ready for the twins, plus i was just busy with work so i guess that really didn't help." johnny says with a heavy heart. he sounds alot like an asshole for doing that to hyunjae. "i was horrible to him."
winter shrugs, shifting in her seat. "dad, i watched you two throughout uncle hyunjae's pregnancy. sure, as a 10 year old, i was kinda confused why you were mostly gone, but now that i'm older and more aware, i kinda get why you were mostly gone." she swallows, thinking about what to say next.
"you were busy, i always saw you signing paperworks and having to leave home early in the morning to get ready for a meeting, which is why you rarely had any time to watch over them, but i knew you still tried to make an effort. you tried to go to all his check ups, brought home gifts and it always made it up to him." winter says, playing with the ring around her index finger. she doesn't recall much since it was 7 years ago, but she remembers how johnny would come home as early as he could with flowers and chocolates, looking like the most cliché man to exist.
hyunjae always told him that he didn't have to bring him anything, but johnny was always insisting that it was to make up for missing out because of work. the bright omega always smiled and felt better just at the sight of his husband, even on his death bed.
"dad," winter calls out, holding her dad's hand with a firm yet gentle grip. "you're going to be okay now with mama. i don't really have any advice about how you can be a better mate than before, but i want you to know that you have nothing to worry about." johnny is so thankful for raising a wise girl. he nods, thankful for the small word of advice from his daughter.
