Day 16: name change (ChuuAtsu)

The young man plopped down onto the couch, dumping all of the contents that were in his arms out onto the coffee table. He had a determined look in his eyes, which, in this case, usually meant one thing: name picking. He looked at his list, looking over all the names that were crossed off, and the ones that remained. His brow furrowed in concentration, and he didn't seem to notice his boyfriend's presence on the couch, not until he made himself known.

"So, any luck, snowflake?" Snowflake was his nickname during this time, mostly because of his hair color.

"I've narrowed it down to these, but I can't choose. They're pretty good." He scratched his head with the back of his pencil. The remaining list of names consisted of:

Akashi, Amane, Ayato, Atsushi, Asuma, and Arashi. He clearly had a thing for names starting with "A".  His eyes narrowed in concentration as he finally began to cross out the final names, leaving only one left.

"Atsushi, is it? That's a good name. I like it." Chuuya comments from next the the younger boy- Atsushi.

As soon as his new name fell from Chuuya's lips, a wave of relief and euphoria washed over him. He loved it, and it was the one. He smiled. "This is the one." He nodded to himself. "Atsushi.." He continued to whisper his new name to himself, loving it even more after every one.

Chuuya smiled. He loved seeing his boyfriend finally happy with who he was. It was a long, difficult road. Atsushi would come into the bedroom crying some nights because he didn't pick one yet. Chuuya, in these times would hold the boy and reassure him that he would find one eventually. And, sure enough, all the pain payed off. He finally found himself. He was whole again.

Atsushi turned around and hugged the ginger, surprising him out of his trance-like state. "Woa-" despite the impact, he hugged back.

"Thank you, Chuuya." Atsushi mumbled into the fabric of Chuuya's shirt.

"For what?"

"For dealing with my shit for all this time, and for supporting me every step of the way. I really appreciate it and I love you."

Chuuya smiled. Atsushi really was too good for him. "There's no need to thank me, Atsushi. I'll always be here for you." The two stayed on the couch, hugging. All the other names on the list were crossed off, leaving only Atsushi. Chuuya smiled down at the paper. Seeing the name written out held so much meaning; it was a new beginning. A beginning of a new life for the younger boy, and a life that would be spent with him and him alone.
