Day 29: starting a family together
(Soukoku)

The door to the orphanage opened, and the two men stepped inside. Today was the day they were going to complete their little family. Right now they just had a cat, which they called Chibi (obviously Dazai's idea), but they wanted a child. Knowing that they couldn't biologically have one, they decided to adopt. Their was an option to go to a hospital and have someone who has an impregnation ability provide the child, but they thought that was too risky. So today they decided to adopt. Specifically, a child they looked at named Atsushi, a little seven year old.

Right now, a lady was going over everything they could possibly need to know before taking the boy. They were previously informed that the boy had trauma from another orphanage, so their were some things to be wary of. "He's sensitive to loud noises, especially yelling, doesn't like sudden touches or movements, and gets quite frequent panic attacks."

The pair nodded, their eyes showing a hint of sadness and pity. They were no stranger to any of those things, working in the mafia will do that to you, but to hear all that about a seven year old was quite sad.

"So, are you ready for me to bring him out?" The lady asked. The two nodded, and she went back to fetch the boy. All the while, Chuuya and Dazai were both mentally preparing themselves for what was to come. Yes, it was only a child, but this child had been traumatized, so they had to he careful to not scare him.

"Alright, Here he is! Atsushi, these are your new parents, Dazai and Chuuya. Say hi, yeah?" A little boy, smaller then the average boy his age, slowly leaned out from behind the woman, looking nervous. He was dressed in a white shirt and black shorts, and he was tightly holding onto a white tiger plushie.

"Hi.. I'm.. Atsushi.." He said quietly.

Dazai and Chuuya smiled, leaning down to the child's level, but still staying a short distance away as to not scare him. "Hi little guy, how are you?" Chuuya asked, a happy smile on his lips.

"M' good.." The boy replied.

"That's good." Chuuya glanced down at the toy in Atsushi's arms. "Who've you got there? Does he have a name?"

"His name is.. Um.. Well I don't have a name for him.."

"Ah, well.. You think of a good name!" The hunger motioned for Dazai to come a bit closer to him, considering he was a little bit behind Chuuya. "Atsushi, this is Dazai. He's my husband, and your other dad!"

Atsushi's eyes sparkled for the first time in a while. "Two dad's? Ooh!" He smiled. "I like that!"

Dazai and Chuuya smiled, their hearts melting at how innocent and pure this boy was. They played and talked to the boy for about another hour, before the lady told them it was time to go. "are you ready to go to your new home?" She asked the small boy.

He nodded. "Can I bring my tiger?" He asked Dazai.

"Of course, you can take him wherever you want." He replied happily. "Now, ready to go?" He held out his hand.

Atsushi took the offered hand, as well as Chuuya's and, after waving goodbye to the lady, they left. They finally had a child. Their family was finally complete.

And it was perfect. 𝘏𝘦 was perfect. The boy was a ray of sunshine in their lives. He and the cat were best friends, going on little adventures together, get would take the cat to the couch with him on movie nights, and would help feed him as well. Atsushi loved his parents, too. He was always by their side. He would often go to the agency with Dazai, where he met everyone else, who obviously loved him. And then after work, he would anxiously wait by the door next to the cat for Chuuya to come home, giving him a big hug once he did. The two men would bathe him, singing little songs during the bath, and read him a bedtime story once he was tucked in. It was great.

But of course, it wasn't all great. The boy obviously had trauma, and some days were worse than others. There were some days he wouldn't come out of his room because he was so scared, or he would have a panic attack if something fell and made a pound noise or if someone yelled. Sometimes, he would cry so much he would throw up. On those days, Dazai and Chuuya were devastated. They were often left wondering who would traumatize such a young child, and what exactly happened. They were never told, so the never asked. But, on some days, during some panic attacks, he would point out a certain hallucination that he saw, and certain pains that he felt. It was heartbreaking.

But, despite all the heartbreaking trauma the child had faced, he still managed to stay happy after all of it. He would still bounce back after panic attack, happy to see his parents. Dazai and Chuuya thought he must've been the strongest boy in the world.
And they would tell him that every day.
