I grabbed the last box from the back of the moving van and hurried into our new house, thunking the box down on the floor.

We had arrived early in the morning so I didn't have time to look around yet.

"How peaceful,"I murmured and smiled as my voice echoed through the huge house.

But it didn't last long.

"Mom!" my 15 year old sister Abigail yelled as she burst into the front door, her hair tousled and messy.

She stopped at the sight of me and I glared at her. "You know, I was really enjoying this quietness," I huffed.

She rolled her eyes, "Where's Mom?"

"I don't know, maybe upstairs," I replied, pointing my finger towards the spiral stairs.

"Thanks," She answered. "Oh and when are you gonna choose your room?"

"Um... right now, i guess." I smiled at the thought of that.

She grabbed my hand and practically pulled me upstairs into a dimly lit hallway.

"So, this is my room, if you don't mind of course." She opened a door with a flourish and I looked around. It was a big room with a balcony attached to it, facing the road.

"Yes Abby, you can have it. There's bound to be a room just fit for me." I answered and gave her a hug.

She laughed. "Thanks Ruthie! Now get out and go find your own room." She punched me playfully. I rolled my eyes and walked out.

I opened the next door and met another face, a few inches away from mine. I shrieked, jumping back only to slip on the polished wood floor, crashing butt first down to the floor.

"Geez Ruth, What the heck is wrong with you?" My 18 year old brother Mason glared at me as he covered his ears.

"Well, geez Mason," I attempted to get up. "I didn't know you'd be right there."

He chuckled and held out his hand to help me.

"So this is your room?" I looked around, the incident forgotten.

"Yup. cool huh?" he replied and went back to unpacking. "Yea totally. I don't even have a room yet," I shrugged carelessly.

"Gosh Ruth, why are you even still standing here then?" He pushed me out of the room and closed the door.

"That was mean." I exclaimed and turned around, mumbling profanities under my breath as I bumped into my dear Mom.

She raised one eyebrow and stared at me, "What was that?" She asked, her hand reaching out to pinch me.

"Uh.. nothing. so which is your room?" I quickly changed the subject, dodging both her hand and the question.

"First room on the left." She answered with a tired sigh as she pushed her hair back from her face

I looked over her shoulder. "So which rooms are empty yet?" I questioned.

"All the way at the end of this extremely long hallway are two bedrooms side by side. They're empty." She replied and I nodded, making my way down the hallway.

I threw open the door on the left and looked around. Not seeing anything I liked, I opened the next door and smiled.

"Now this is more like it." The room was seriously huge. It had a small comfy couch in the middle of a room and another bigger one beside it. A recliner sat in one corner and beside the bed was a writing desk, just perfect for my laptop, i noted to myself and grinned.
