A few hours later in the night:

-Austin-

"Is Ruth alright? Can I see her? I need to see my daughter!" Mrs. Summers voice broke through my sleep and I groggily sat up, realizing I had fallen asleep in my chair.

"In the morning we will let you see her. Visiting hours are over so you cannot see her right now." The doctor firmly answered and led the distraught mother to a seat.

"What happened? I don't understand. I haven't heard anything yet except you told me to come home because Ruth was sick." Mrs. Summers told Mason.

"Well Mom, remember what happened when she was 14?" Mason asked wearily.

"Yes." She whispered, her face edged with worry.

"Well, it happened again." He slowly answered.

"Oh no." Mrs. Summers covered her mouth with her hands as she stared at Mason in horror. "But why is it so bad now? Her blood pressure was better already."

"She has traces of drugs in her blood system that she was allergic to." "He replied.

"That's not possible. Ruthelia doesn't do drugs." She stated firmly.

"Maybe we were wrong." Mason answered and ran his hand through his hair.

Mrs. Summers shook her head firmly and stared at the wall.

I looked around the waiting room. There were about no people around. Alex, Emily and Abigail had left for Alex's house and wanted to come back in the morning.

Yawning, I slid down into my seat, drifting off to sleep again.

---------------------------------

"Austin, wake up." Someone shook me and I sat up quickly, running my hand over my face.

"Man, you look cute when you sleep." Emily giggled as I scowled at her remark.

"Here I brought a set of clothes for you." Emily added and wrinkled her nose. "And next time, don't make me do it. I hate going through guy's clothes."

I chuckled and took the bag she was holding out for me. She had brought my casual clothes, Ruth's favorites. "Thanks Em. I just might ask you to do it again."

She stuck her tongue out at me and plumped down on the seat beside me, her face turning serious.

"Do you think Ruth will be okay?" She anxiously asked, one lone tear trickled down her cheek and she furiously wiped it away.

"Yea she'll be fine." I reassured her though I wasn't so sure myself.

"Alright. We are going to let you visit her now. First, only the immediate family." The doctor informed us and Mason, Mrs. Summers and Abigail stood up, following the doctor down the hall.

After 15 minutes, I started impatiently tapping my fingers on the arm rest of my chair.

When I saw the doctor coming, I quickly stood up and stuffed my hands into my pockets. "Ok you three can come now too." He answered and led Alex, Emily and me to the room.

He paused at the door and turned to us. "Please brace yourselves for the worst. You will be shocked at how different she looks, tubes and wires are all over her and machines are connected to her."

We nodded and he opened the door. I stared at the sight before me. It was worse then I had expected. I could barely see her face through all the tubes. Slowly, I came closer and laid my hand on her arm. It was still a little hot but her fever seemed to be diminishing away. Now all we needed was her trying to live.
