Dating an Original vampire was not something Rhea expected, but, it's the easiest thing she's ever done. They're dating, taking it at their own pace without the society's expectations of putting juvenile labels on it such as boyfriend and girlfriend. They're together, yes, but, they're something much more than that. It's early stages, but, it's already so deep and Rhea already feels so safe and secure within their connection that she doesn't mind the pace they are taking or the route. She just enjoys being by his side even though the old her would've thought it was wrong because of their positioning—he's considered an enemy, but, he's not an enemy to her.
Elijah's been nothing but good to her. He's provided a safe space for her to be herself and come to terms with things on her own time. He doesn't mind that he's taking a backseat role and letting her take the lead, because all he wants is for her to be comfortable and happy. They've grown together as people, and as a couple. Elijah's taken her on multiple dates where they could just be themselves and get to know each other further; while Elijah had a lot to go over from his long eternal life, Rhea would sit and listen in wonder. Although they haven't known each other very long, Rhea feels as if she knows him better than she knows herself—and she's unsure if that's because of the bond or because they've done so well at getting to know one another.
They've progressed so much that they've agreed to take the next step, which includes him meeting Caroline. While he has met her since coming to Mystic Falls, he hasn't met her met her. Caroline only really knows him as the Original vampire before it slowly transitioned into being the soon to be love of Rhea's life. She knows that Elijah makes her happy, but, beyond that, she knows nothing else and they want it to be more than that. Boyfriends always need to meet the best friend of their girlfriends; it's a normal step when it comes to dating despite being an unconventional couple.
"She's almost here!" Rhea screeched as she ran from the kitchen towards Elijah who was standing near the front door, staring at his soulmate with concern.
"Why are we doing this again?" He wanted to be reminded.
Rhea simply swatted him on the arm, "Because Caroline is my best friend and getting her approval means more than getting the approval from my parents these days." She explained like it was obvious, "So, don't forget to smile."
"Why?" He questions. Caroline already knew who he was and his relationship to Rhea. He had no idea why they were going through all of this trouble when they weren't even official yet. But, truth be told, he liked Caroline. She took care of his soulmate in ways that he could never understand and couldn't thank her enough of pulling her out of her dark days.
