False Shadows

The voices came

a whirlwind

out of a light

into my darkness

preceding the voices

came faces

hollow and haunting

with a bitterness of something sinister

they called to me

emotion in their voices which meant nothing

still I fell for them

cold hands took me to a place

empty with the promises they had abdicated

ghosted values

dripped on the broken streets

seeping into my skin

lies that told the truth

leaking into my ears

forcing red tears of blood from my eyes

cries of the fallen

and the mislead

a bright flash

and they were gone

I was now one of them

false shadows

they trapped me in my own metal walls of ignorance, narrow – mindedness

naivety and misery

I stand alone

what a fool I was; My darkness was better.
