This was it. She was face to face with The Wanted.
'Hi' said Tom, with a kind smile.
The others all said hello and how it was nice to meet her, before Jay asked her name.
'I'm Sarah, part of The Wanted Fanmily', she replied, beaming, blushing slightly when it at last occurred to her that she was talking to her all-time favourite band.
'That's a pretty name, doesn't it mean princess?' Nathan chipped in.
'Thanks,' she smiled, 'I think so.' Her heart did a little somersault. Nathan, Nathan Sykes was talking to her. Had he indirectly called her a princess? How did he know that anyway? It's a relatively random fact for someone to know if their own name isn't Sarah, or if they don't have anyone in their family called Sarah. Calm down, she reminded herself. Just act normal and be yourself. Don't weird him out, there are twenty six other girls here, who probably all wouldn't mind a date with Nathan either. Be yourself. True.
The boys said they had to wait for the last three girls to arrive, but Nathan said he'd take her inside and make introductions with the twenty three girls already there. (There were 16 per team, as it was an outdoor game). On the walk over he chatted to her.
'So Sarah, you look great. How old are you?'
'Thanks, you don't look too bad yourself, in fact you look ready to fight!' Sarah said playfully back to him, her crush. She was surprised she was so confident, she normally stuttered and stumbled on her words. She was thankful she was talking normally, 'I'm 16.'
'Ah well, I am ready to make sure my team wins this war! I was 16 once, but I'm 19 now. Weird huh? Apparently you get a year older every 365 days.'
'I know.' I know?! Sarah mentally slapped herself, that just made her look like a stalker. Luckily, he didn't seem to notice.
'Be a shame if you're not on my team, because then I'll have to kill you.' Nathan replied, obviously having a bit of fun.
'Haha, then I'll have to make sure I'm on the same team as you, because I'd really like to live a good many more years thank you. And I'd rather it not be you who kills me', Sarah said, subtly hinting that she liked him, but boys being boys, he didn't seem to pick it up.
'Have you ever played paintball before?' Nathan asked.
'No... Which is where the problem lies, so I will probably die', she frowned a little.
'Well you're in for a treat then, it's great fun! But you might get a few bruises', He said with a cheeky grin 'If you are on my team, I'll just have to protect you.'
'You'll be my personal soldier' she said , quoting lyrics from one of The Wanted's songs, but putting it into the second person perspective. What?! Sarah, you've really done it this time. They both looked at eachother as she paused, and laughing nervously she continued, 'sorry, that was really cheesy wasnt it? I just love your songs so much...' she trailed off, blushing.
Nathan waved it away with his hand, 'Don't worry, we get it a lot. Sometimes even I accidentally quote lyrics, I don't like to though really. But it was cute when you did it, you're cute when you blush.' It was his turn to blush now.
They had reached the door of the building where all the other competition winners had been gathering.
'Let's go inside. Prepare to die!' Nathan sang with a cheeky grin and playfully punched Sarah on the arm, before running inside so that Sarah couldn't do anything back.
She beamed and shook her head a little, opening the door.
