Sarah had expected this to happen, but she had thought it would happen immediately or a little while later. Maybe they waited until Nathan was safely out of the country before they released it, leaving her unprotected and vulnerable.
'Wh-what?' She stammered.
She accidentally dropped the phone in her shock.
'Sarah! Sarah?! What was that? Are you ok?' Nathan worried down the phone. He had no idea how she was going to react to this news, but he had to tell her; she had to be prepared, and he didn't want her find out that the press new from them, he wanted her to hear it from him first.
Sarah picked the phone up to hear this, and gripped the phone so tightly that her knuckles were white before replying a little disjointedly 'Yes, I'm ok. I just dropped the phone by accident, sorry.'
'So you're not hurt?' Nathan asked anxiously.
'No, I'm not hurt.'
'Good.' Nathan was relieved.
'So, what exactly does the press know?'
'Everything. They know that we spent the whole day together when we first met, or at least quite a while - one of the fans there apparently gave photographic evidence for money or something - I had no idea any of them were even taking pictures of us. Cameras were supposed to off and left at the base with Jayne while we were actually paint balling. And it's not the best picture for them to have either - it was when we rolled down the bank.'
Sarah moaned, knowing that the media would make up some ridiculous story to go with this.
'And they know that we went on a date,' Nathan continued, 'And that we ended up in prison.'
'What?! They can't know we ended up in prison! Everyone will find out at school and my parents!' Sarah was distraught and turned into a worrying, emotional wreck.
'Sarah it's ok. Management are trying to sort things out. But it will still get out into the media. We can't control that. Me and Jay are in so much trouble you wouldn't even believe.'
'But that's not fair! It wasn't your fault! It was Jay's! Everyone will find out! What am I supposed to do about my parents?!' Sarah was in full worrying mode by now, getting hysterical.
Nathan suddenly went quiet at the mention of her parents.
'Nathan?'
'Well, I-'
'Nathan, have you told my parents? What were you talking to my mum about earlier?'
'I had to tell her Sarah. I'm sorry. It's to keep you safe. I don't want you to get hurt, or be harassed.'
'So she knows I went to a club and got arrested?'
'Errrr yeah. Pretty much.'
Sarah moaned. 'I guess it was inevitable that it was going to happen wasn't it?'
'Yes, we weren't going to get away with it. Especially as I haven't been linked to a girl in three years - and they are going to find out soon that you are my girlfriend. But we'll wait until I get back to tell them, I want to be with you.'
'Yeah, I'd like to tell them officially together. What do I tell my mum and dad about it all then? What do I say at school? What do I do if paparazzi approach me?'
'Well, your mum will probably ask you questions and tell you off, and no doubt tell you I'm a bad influence, and-'
'But you're not a bad influence!' Sarah interjected.
'Well, all parents say that when something happens in their child's relationship. And it will be even worse for you because you're going to have a lot of press attention for the next few months, and in the future, until they settle down and it's clear that I am unavailable.'
