-Peter-

I had spent the night with Lyra, but when I woke up in the morning she was no longer in her bed. Tired, I got up and padded into the hallway. I heard faint noises from the bathroom, the door was closed. As I got closer to the door, I heard faint sobs on the other side. I knocked cautiously.

"One Second! Got it right away!”, she shouted shocked, but I opened the door anyway.

"I've heard you anyway."

A little forced she gave me a short smile.

"Will you tell me what's going on?"

She just nodded and we sat down on the floor. I sat across from her and waited for her to start talking.

“I'm afraid you might never remember. We always said that we would stay with each other no matter what, and so will I. I won't let you down but maybe I can only do this as a friend. I don't know if I can be with you if you never remember me and everything we went through again. I'm sorry to have to say this, but I wanted to be honest with you. I really hope that everything will be all right again, that you can remember again. We'd still be friends, but it would still feel like I lost you. I can't and don't want to lose you and I will do everything I can to prevent it from going that far… ”

She was just about to say something, but she saw me staring at the floor and thinking about what she had said. I was silent and looked up into her eyes. She waited uncertainly for my reaction.

“I can understand. I really can, but it won't get that far, I promise.“

I slowly leaned over and kissed her.

"I promise!", I repeated.

The doorbell rang, it was May. She brought my backpack over because we were going to school again today. Just before we entered the school building, Lyra gave me a few more instructions.

“You just stay with me and don't talk so much. And don't forget, those up there are our friends. You already know Ned and the others are Mike, Riley, Cole, Ellie and MJ.”

“Come on then. Let's dare!”

The first two lessons actually went very well, everything was perfect until an announcement rang out during the first break: “Lyra Adams and Peter Parker please go to the directorate immediately! I repeat, Lyra Adams and Peter Parker please go to the directorate immediately!”

I looked at Lyra questioningly.

"Shit, not that too!"

"Do you know why we have to go there?"

"Not really, but I guess what."

Lyra advised me to leave most of the speaking to her. The secretary met us and then opened the door to the director's office for us. On entering I caught a quick glance at the nameplate on the door "Mr. Baker ". I should at least know his name. We sat in the two chairs across from Mr. Baker's desk. Another woman sat in another chair in the corner of the room.

"She's some kind of social worker.", Lyra whispered to me.

"So ... do you both know why you are here?"

Lyra did the answering first. "Not really."

"Well, first of all, this is Ms. White, our social worker.", he introduced the woman. “We've noticed a lot about both of you lately! We are concerned about the ever increasing number of days absent. You two have been absent quite a bit lately, but at least her academic performance is still good. Mr. Parker, you've always been an unremarkable student, but now you're getting into fights and scuffles more and more often. Ms. Adams, you seem quite often distracted lately, sometimes even confused and just changed in general. ”
