I spotted MJ leaning diagonally behind Peter in the doorway.

“How long have you been standing there?”

“Not that long, but I've heard everything anyway, in case that answers your question better. It was good that I told him, wasn't it?”

She grinned at us and I rolled my eyes slightly.

"Yes it was."

We took our bags and went to school, where fortunately this stupid project day had been canceled for good. So first of all the physical education classes awaited us there. Although the academic decathlon training did not take place today, we decided to have lunch at school. Ned and Peter sat down across from MJ and me and we started to eat.

Suddenly Cole, Ellie, Mike and Riley joined us at the table. I was a bit skeptical at first, but then I realized the four of them were really pretty ok and they seemed to like us.

"Hey guys, what do you think if we're all hanging out this afternoon?", Cole suggested.

“You probably know this super hip café near the mall. Let's go there.”, Riley suggested.

"Sure I'll be there.", I agreed and Ned and MJ nodded.

“Yes, me too, but I'll come a little later. I have to go to detention now.", Peter said and left.

Mike took up the floor: "Well, let's all go home now and meet there in about an hour."

So we parted ways and I hurried to get home, because I wanted to change before I had to go again . I stood in front of my closet, perplexed. Ultimately I chose a black skirt which ended just above the knees and a thin, elegant, light blue sweater. Just as I was changing, the doorbell rang. I wasn't expecting anyone and when I opened the door there were standing Ellie and Riley.

"Hi, we thought we could go together because we'd come over here anyway," Ellie explained.

"Sure, let's go!"

I grabbed my cell phone, wallet and keys and we went.

"Can I ask you something?", I asked.

“What?”

“Why do you suddenly want to be friends with us?”

“Why shouldn't we? Michelle, Ned, Peter and you are nice and we could definitely become a great friendgroup. "

"Yes, we really could. I just thought because the four of you are more of the "cool" and we don't."

Riley laughed: "Well, I think you're pretty cool and who knows, maybe you will all soon be one of the “hip” people."

"Thank you, maybe we will be."

Since we walked all the way, it took a while. After half an hour we reached the café and sat down at a large table in the corner by the window. The others came shortly after us. First Mike, then Cole, and then MJ and Ned. I noticed that they had all changed too.
Ellie wore black jeans and a yellow crop top that went well with her hip-length blonde hair. Her friend Cole also wore black jeans, but on the top he wore a red sweater.
Riley was wearing blue jeans and a white blouse. Her sleek, shoulder-length brown hair was perfectly in place. Mike had obviously styled his dark blonde hair very long and had opted for a white shirt and black jeans.
Strangely enough, I always paid very close attention to what other people were wearing. Even Michele had abandoned her usual, casual look and instead wore a dark blue, long-sleeved dress. Ned had even put on a shirt with his usual jeans, a light gray one. We waited until Peter came to order and we just talked.
I felt like I could make friends with Riley really well. She and I weren't that different and she was really nice and funny. After half an hour, Peter finally came in the door and Ned greeted him.

"Hey, wow Peter you look really different."

He really did, he was wearing black jeans and a white shirt and he had styled his hair.

"You look good Peter.", Michelle laughed. “Different than usual, but good!“

Peter smiled sheepishly and I got up briefly to hug him in greeting. We all ordered different milkshakes and we had long and to my surprise really good conversations. In between the conversations split and then MJ, Ellie, Riley and I talked to each other and the boys talked about other things.

"We have to do that more often!", Mike threw around and everyone agreed.

"I have to go now, it's already late.", Ellie commented and since it was really late and the café was about to close anyway, we all left.
