Long ago, when European royals grew bored with palace balls, they took a page from the peins and added some pageantry.
Couture and canapes are just another Saturday night until you add a mask.
But preparing for a ball is an event in itself, which is why queens invented handmaidens.
Blair, Serena, and I lay on Blair's bed talking about tonight's ball.
"So Kati mentioned something about a custom-made corset, and I hear there are wigs involved?" I ask Blair.
"It's a masquerade. You have to conceal your identity, but I do have something special planned for Nate tonight. " Blair tells us, smiling.
"It's a game. It's a scavenger hunt. Nate starts the night with a clue, which leads him to a lady in waiting, who gives him a clue to the next lady."
Serena interrupts her asking "Wait, you have ladies now?"
"If he finds me before midnight when the masks come off, he can claim his prize" Blair explains her whole plan to us.
I give her a suggestive look "And what is this prize?" I ask.
Blair tells me "I just figured that after everything that's happened, or hasn't happened, I should find some way to make it special."
Serena swoons before saying "Well, that's really romantic, Blair, and um if you don't want me to come tonight I totally understand. I could just.."
Blair looks at Serena and I as if we were crazy.
"What? No, I want you to come. In fact, I was hoping you would be one of my ladies. Would you give Nate the last clue?" she asks, looking at Serena.
Serena looks hesitant.
"Are you sure you want me to?" she asks.
"Tonight is all about starting over. I trust you..and him," Blair tells her.
Serena smiles brightly telling Blair that she would be honored to serve her before doing an exaggerated curtsy.
Serena then goes on to explain how Dan is most likely going to be a no show to the dance.
Blair and I come up with a scheme to help her get a date.
Dan is dumb to not want to go with Serena and we would make sure he realized that.
Checking the time on my phone I realize I'm late to meet up with Nate and Chuck.
I leave the girls and head over to Nate's.
When I enter I see Nate and Chuck snooping around the Captain's office.
"What are we looking for?" I sneak up behind them causing them both to jump out before jokingly glaring at me.
