It was about three in the morning once we arrived, the sun rose up fairly quickly, but we still had a few hours to ourselves, approximately until 5-6 am. We headed up the mountain that I lived on and admired the pleasant atmosphere as we went past my house, stopping for a while to look at the stunning view of the sleeping city from above, after what we began to carefully descend down to the other side of the hill, where a peaceful village could be seen. Small houses stood in rows near a large wheat field, though I didn't pay much attention to the view as I climbed down, minding every step of mine so I wouldn't trip over and fall.
...
As we steadily reached the ground, we decided to take a walk around the area and went straight to explore a row of miniature traditional houses. This place wasn't so big, so once we passed by all the small buildings, we came out to the path that led to another neighbourhood, but instead of following it, we headed straight to the bushy field that was surrounded by a medium-height wooden fence. We climbed up on the log barrier and sat down next to each other, listening to how the crickets sitting in the tall moist grass screeched quietly, the light wind haunted the tops of slim trees standing in the field, and the birds that chirped peacefully on the fragile branches.
The view was truly hypnotising, the thick, moistened with cold morning dewdrops field with the light blue sky in the background, the fading dusty moon and the warm mist...
...
"How beautiful...~" I whispered to myself as my eyes fell upon the glistening beads of water laying on the soft grass below my feet.
...
A moment of pure and comforting silence reigned over us for a while but was soon disturbed by the slightly muffled sounds of nature, and I started softly humming a melodic song as I looked up at the rising mist that got tangled in the meadow.
...
"Oh my... I never knew you had such a pleasingly soft voice...~ What's this tune that you were singing just now?~" Enmu sweetly complimented me as he stroked my hand.
...
"It was just something between me and a childhood friend of mine...~ I always sang it with Muichiro...~" I said as I inhaled the fresh cool air and stared into the distance.
...
"Muichiro..? Who's that..?"
...
Many memories began to flood back into my head before I started speaking. Muichiro. He was a relatively dear person to me. I had completely forgotten about him since everything that happened to me for the past time of living as a demon...
...
I quickly recapped the whole story to Enmu about my previous late-childhood life, restoring my own memories during the process and letting the nostalgia get to me while I spoke. When I was a human, I was friends with a young boy named Muichiro. I could still remember that he had beautiful blue-mint eyes that glowed like turquoise gems and silky raven-black hair that faded into a minty shade halfway and all the way to his tips. He used to live here and I met him when I was visiting my grandmother one time, I always ran away from home during very early morning times while everyone was asleep and walked freely around the neighbourhood, wondering through the forest and other places around here. I clearly remember sitting in this same exact place while staring at the view until Muichiro sat down next to me and we both looked at the clouds in silence until one of us struck up a conversation and we became good friends since then. When I found out that he was one of the Hashira, I was beyond shocked that someone as noble as the Mist Pillar himself was interested in spending time with me and was willing to train me as well. We kept constantly meeting up at the same place every night and stayed up until sunrise, walking into the depths of the field, getting lost within the mist. We were practically inseparable best friends at a certain point, and a special part about our friendship that brought some kind of connection was the the fact we always sang this one particular song when we looked at this exact view...
But our friendship was then stopped because I had to leave this place due to certain personal reasons, and then later on I was turned into a demon, which put an end to all my connections with my friends, family, and everyone who I cherished... Since Muichiro held a special place in my heart, I still remember how I used to watch him still come to this place and sit all alone sometimes. Despite the fact that I was already a demon, it really wounded me seeing him stare into nothing and sing by himself... I never reached out to him since I was transformed, and I don't know if he even knows that I am demon, heck I'm not even sure if he still remembers me at all.
...
But he was my only friend back then, and honestly I miss him a lot.
...
Tears welled up in my eyes when I spoke, but as I looked at Enmu, he just coldly stared at the mist and turned his head away.
...
And that made me feel so... Offended in a way.
