I wish I could see what you saw,
As my eyes traced the stars.
They don't hold much for you, I know,
You were never much for my thoughts.
Straggling behind I fear sometimes,
Over my obsessions, unlikely compassions.
When you look at me, what do you see,
For my mirror spells misery.
My life I will give just for one,
Day, to see as you.
To hear, to feel, to love so kindly,
To be as you are to me.
To see what that sky held for you,
As we sat in those musty seats.
As I traced the starry roads,
And you fell asleep.
