Brothers oh Brothers!

Twenty years in twenty minutes,
Boys grew still, and men raged ill.
Stars filled their eyes so bright,
Then the world descended into eternal night.
Brothers oh brothers! They cried,
The boys that had become men tonight.
Wisdom all from pain they got,
Wizened wizards, blind and lost.
Brothers oh brothers! They heard.
Brothers indeed from over the ridge.
A blinding it took for them to see,
The blood they shared in between.

Mothers stood awaiting their sons,
But saw that what returned.
Writhing defiled creatures of rot,
The blind and ghastly burned.
Sons had left and monsters returned,
Boys hoping to be men; spurned.
They stumbled into their mothers arms,
Cold corpses, withered hands.
Carrion sought a carrions warmth,
As the lights descended and  dropped.
Brothers oh brothers! They yelled.
But none louder than the suns.

A babe just born to a starlit night,
Now saw day with a shimmering fright.
A dead mothers hands now warmed; she slept,
As the sky soon fell; the stars wept.
The end was nigh, when the brethren fought,
And only solace was in the dark.
To live in fear of the suns we made,
As the stars would fade by our mark.
No compass lead the babe now awake,
Finding her stormy path.
Carrion seeking carrion's warmth,
Oh brother! What have we done?

The blind, the dead, the living fret,
For living was true death still.
Among the plains of ashen grass,
Asphodel began to amass.
Light would never shine again,
Upon the goodly souls.
And the brothers we are shall walk these shores,
Till bones fall off our soles.
And the blind shall sing to the music of the dead,
While the stars carry forth the night.
Hoping never to see light again,
Hoping forever to be blind.
And when the murk clears once more,
And the moon reveals again,
The dead shall stare and judge us still,
Brothers who forged this will.

Brothers oh brothers! Boys and men,
We are naught but one.
Following the light that shines so false,
Until falls upon us the sun.
