Blain

She stood a little straighter and walked across the room like a lioness on the prowl. "Well, I guess there's no point in keeping up the charade any longer." She sat in the chair across from me crossing one leg over the other completely unbothered by the towel that fell open to expose her naked form.

She picked at her nails studying them while she spoke with a tone that didn't fit as well as the soft, quiet innocence she had used when we first met. This was darker, more controlled, and gave me chills to watch the switch flip so suddenly. We really didn't know her at all.

"Axel hired me to keep an eye on his little pet plaything." She shrugged as if it were nothing. Just a fact with no collateral damage done. I grit my teeth as I connected the dots. "What else did he hire you to do?"

She rolled her eyes huffing out a sigh and leaned forward, her elbows on her knees, legs spread wide. "He didn't pay me to sleep with you if that's what you're asking." She said indignantly. "I may be many things, but a paid lay isn't one of them. This" she smirked motioning between us, "I did because I wanted to." She said with a wink and my stomach sank. "Why?" I asked as bile threatened to escape.

She blinked rapidly stunned that I would ask, "why?" she laughed, but it wasn't the sweet gentle laugh we had heard at dinner this was sinister and half crazed. "My job is tedious. The money is barely worth my time. So, when Axel hired me to watch over his precious Fayth, I had time to study you both. Find out what made you both tick. But what I couldn't figure out is with all the instances that you hurt her, and she hurt you, what would bring you both back to each other. Call me jealous, I wanted a piece too. I can't speak on personal experiences with her, but from how possessive you and Axel are of her she must have a golden snatch." She rolled her eyes again jealousy tinged her words before she laughed it off again.

"It was you. You were the one behind the texts. You drove her away. Made me break her heart. You destroyed our lives!" I said through clenched teeth inching towards my phone hoping she wouldn't notice.

She tipped her head from side to side weighing her answer. "Would it matter if I was? It's not going to change the fact that only moments ago you were inside me breaking every promise you ever made to your darling little love bug." She said making a gagging face. "It won't stop him from showing her the video of our little escapades either." She smiled a sadistic grin, and I dove for my phone.

My fingertips brushed the cold glass of my phone on the floor, but she was faster, kneeled on the floor with a small blade biting at my throat. "Don't be a hero, Blain. I've killed far more attractive men in my time, each of them much bigger, stronger, and well trained than the likes of you. Be a good boy and sit back on the bed. I'll answer your questions and when I'm done, you will wait ten minutes before calling your sister." I pulled back to get some leverage against her, but she pushed the blade harder against my skin until a small trickle of blood stained her fingertips. "I said sit!" she pushed me hard back onto my ass with her heal to my chest.

"Out of all the questions you have asked me, you never once seemed to ask about your mother. Where is she Blain? Your precious little Fayth is out of harms way... for the time being that is. Axel thinks he's got what he wanted, but your mom... when did you last hear from her?" Her smile sent chills down my spine. I haven't heard from her in a few days. None of my texts or calls ever got a response. I thought she was just working or maybe she was disappointed with how things went down with Brice but looking back that doesn't seem like my mom. She always answered my calls and texts within a few hours. I had been so wrapped up in finding a way to get back to Fayth that I completely forgot about my mother's life being threatened in the process. "What did you do to her?" I growled out balling my hands into fists.

She only tutted in response "Silly boy, I am a woman of my word. I didn't do anything to her, Axel's daddy though, he may have had a little bit of use for her. An incentive if you will."

"Where is she?" I shouted trying to maintain my emotions, but they all came flooding through my system like a tidal wave.

She tapped her fingers to her chin as she paced in front of me. "Let me think."

"Stop playing with me, Sandra or whoever the fuck you are! Where is my mother?" I yelled standing to my feet.

She looked at me like a misbehaving child and shook her head. "If you don't sit back down like a good little puppy, I will find her, skin her alive, and deliver her dried, jerky flesh to you in a special little tin can. Now SIT!"

The moment the words left her lips I was compelled to sit back on the bed. I would give anything to protect the two most important women in my life and that includes listening to a psychopathic maniac's every command until I have evidence that they are safe.

"Where was I?" she smiled down at me. "Oh yes! Your dear ol mommy. Last I saw her, she was at the brothel on third street. It's located under a strip club, but I wouldn't suggest you go there." She shrugged as if to say I should just leave my mother to a life of sex trafficking.

"And why shouldn't I go after her? It's not like they could stop me at the door."

"Oh, but they can and will, little pup, but do as you please. It makes no difference to me. I already have my money. My job is complete and now I have only one thing left to tick off my list before I leave this wretched town." She hummed as she pulled her clothes back on.

"Why are you helping me? After everything you have done to upend our lives, why help us now?" I asked confused by this change just as much as her hard exterior.

She paused in her motion to put her shirt back on. "I-", her phone pinged with a new alert and her eyes grew only slightly. "Would you look at that. We're all out of time." she kissed my cheek while grabbing her purse off the floor. "Remember, Blain, be a good boy and wait ten minutes. I hope we don't meet like this again. I'd hate to have you end up in my art collection, no matter how gorgeous an exhibit you would be."

My pulse rushed in my ears as I watched the seconds slowly tick by one at a time. Impatience wared in my brain with images of the worst things imaginable happening first to my mom, then to Fayth. The images playing on a loop in my mind making my stomach flip and roll. Nausea threatening to take hold of me. Before my phone could finish its countdown, I was jumping into my car, dialing Fayth's number, and speeding out of the driveway. The phone rang once, twice, and then disconnected. I stared at the flashing screen for a moment in frustration and then threw my phone into the passenger seat. What if they got her too? What if I'm too late? I slammed my foot on the gas propelling forward faster. Taking a hard right turn and then a left.

What if I'm too late.

I would die before I let anything happen to them.

God why was I so fucking stupid?
