Izetta's POV
We headed off and met with Lady Sif, Volstagg, and Fandral in secret. I was beyond excited for this. It felt just like old times. Well, almost. My crew was a little different thanks to, well, being in Asgard and not on Earth, but I couldn't help remembering back to New York. It was time for another mission impossible! Heimdall joined us as Thor began to explain his plan.
"What I'm about to ask of you is treason in the highest order. Success will bring us exile, and failure shall mean our death. Malekith knew the Aether was here. He can sense its power. If we do nothing, he will come for it again but this time, lay waste to all of Asgard," Thor explained. "We must move Jane off-world."
"The Bifrost has been shut down and the Tesseract locked away in a vault," Lady Sif countered.
"There are other paths off Asgard, ways known only to a few," Heimdall replied.
"One, actually," Thor added. We all knew who he meant.
"No." Volstagg wasn't up for that one, apparently. I sighed.
"Well, this just got even more interesting."
"We need Loki," Thor stated. I looked at him and shrugged.
"He's your brother, you get him." Thor looked at me for a moment before turning back to the others.
"I need all of you to be ready to assist our escape. Follow the ship we take and be ready for us to jump out. It will be a distraction after we use it to get far enough away from the city," Thor told us.
"Alright! I'll use my gear to help hold off pursuit, and then-"
"You are coming with me to retrieve Loki and Jane." I stopped.
"I am?" He grinned.
"Yes, you are."
"...You're no fun."
"It's Loki. He should be the definition of fun."
"The opposite kind of fun, but whatever floats your boat, I guess."
*At the dungeon*
I hurried along with Thor as we went to convince Loki to join us. The plan was in motion and there was no going back. We walked in together and Loki stood up to face us as we arrived. Of course, he was much more interested in his brother this time. I wasn't surprised as he only spared me a quick glance.
"Thor," He began. "After all this time and now you come to visit me." He leaned in. "Why?" I let Thor handle it for now. Loki gave me a bit more attention when he looked at me the second time. "I see you brought your Midgardian pet along." I glared at him, not liking what he was insinuating.
"Okay, I won't tolerate that one," I growled. I'm not anyone's 'pet' in any way, shape, or form. Thor hushed me and I calmed down, reminding myself Loki was our only chance. Loki continued.
"Have you come to gloat? To mock?"
"Loki, enough," Thor told him. "No more illusions." I paused, slightly confused.
"What?" Illusion? But- I saw him fade away and the room was revealed to be a wreck as Loki appeared on the floor, a wreck compared to the last time I saw him. I was stunned.
"Now you see me, Brother." I felt a weight on my chest as he said that.
"Before...was an illusion?" He looked at me.
"Still not very good at spotting them, are you, Izetta?" I frowned, realizing two things. The first one was that even using an illusion, he'd addressed me far less hostile than his brother. The second was that he'd been afraid to show us his true self. He was vulnerable. I'd never seen him look so...defeated. Even after New York, he'd had some fight in him.
