Seeing Tori watch in shock, I took in a big puff from my cigarette before walking over to her.
"So, you saw all that?" I asked quietly, looking away from her.
"Yeah. I'm sorry that you went through all that." She replied sadly.
"It's fine. I'm over it." I shrugged, taking another puff and trying not to tear up. At this point I'm not even surprised about getting hurt, I am surprised that I didn't see it coming.
"No, but it's not fine. I know what she meant to you, even if she kept you away from us. " Tori chuckled bitterly.
"Yeah, well.. " I contemplated whether or not I should tell her that I knew she didn't cheat on me, but I quickly decided against it because she would know that I looked through her phone which was a pretty shitty move on my part. "My friends mean more than she does to me,"
Tori's face lit up with a smile, and she started to blush, clutching on to the food bags even tighter.
"Even you." I ended with a cheeky smirk. Her face turned sour and she looked at me with irritation and shock.
"Gee, thanks!" She rolled her eyes. I patted her back and we both headed back inside to do our shitty assignment before Miss Vega had to leave for her weekend away with Mister Perfect."I'm telling you, this is going to be good. All we need now is for you to record at least part of it and we can continue when you get back." I urged, finishing up my pasta.
"Ugh! But I don't wanna sing!" Tori wined, taking a sip from her iced tea.
"I can't sing. I just ate and I'm very sad." I pointed out monotonously. Tori eyed me with sarcastic confusion, pointing at my face.
"I mean -- I'm very sad." I repeated, this time with an excessive pout and sad brows.
"Alright, alright! Geez. Let's go." Tori shook her head and got up. I nodded and put down my food, before walking to the door beside the control panel which was facing an empty booth. Tori sat down on one of the stools, and I quickly changed the microphone that was out to another one that we had in a cupboard beside her. Once that was all set up, I walked back out and handed her the notebook where I had written some lyrics.
Walking back out to my seat, I signalled for Tori to put on her headphones which she did.
"Alright, Tori. This is how the song goes --" I proceeded to sing the melody on 'Da' and then motioned for her to let me know when she's ready. She read the lyrics and looked very surprised at what I had written as it was inspired by a thought that came back to me earlier and also but what I went through.
"Alright, I think I'm ready." She piped up.
"Okay, and 1, 2, 3."I pointed to her as a signal and she started to sing the lyrics, messing up every few, but then we would restart. After 3 tries, and my explanations, she finally got her verse down perfect, only missing some extra adlibs and things like that which would be filled later on when we would return.
"That was awesome." I nodded, turning to her on my swivel chair.
"Thank you. It was awesome because you wrote some great lyrics. Where do you even come up with this stuff?" She asked kindly, taking a sip from her tea.
"Meh, I don't know, I don't know. They just come to me." I spluttered, trying not to laugh. "Anyway, Vega. I was hoping I could ask you for a favor."
"Uh-oh." She cautiously backed away slightly and looked at me with crazy eyes.
"No, shut up. I would like you to sleep over. My parents will be home tomorrow and I don't know, I don't wanna be home alone tonight. Also, Ice misses you." I quickly added.
"Oh, yeah. Definitely. Let me just call my parents and Caleb." She smiled, getting up to make the phone call. Once she had left the booth, I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.
"Oh, yeah. Let me just call Caleb, my gorgeous husband and father of my children." I mocked with the transatlantic accent I always did for Tori. As I finished up some finishing touches, my phone vibrated once again, indicating I got a text message. I opened my phone and began to read the text that came from an unknown number.________________________________________
