The timing couldn't have been any worse. I was now torn between listening to my summons' information, giving them indications and listening to the meeting about my future responsibilities. I ended up choosing to verify the veracity of the shed's usage and allow the goblins to gather information on their own while I waited to be told of my own work.
Thankfully, I didn't have to wait long. After I told a few goblins to gather around the shed and one of them to try and enter in peace, my name was called.
"Yes?" I replied.
"Since you're a first-year honor student, you will mostly be following an older student on patrol. Is that fine with you?"
"Oh, sure."
"Great! As for who you'll be following..."
"Me!" a manly voice shouted.
The man that yelled was the one sitting next to Lynn. His voice was deep, his beard giving him a much older look than one might think, to the point I first questioned if he was a student in the first place. He had his hand raised high in the air.
"Oh, you want to take on patrols, Julle?"
"Yes, ma'am!"
Him standing up while saying this line in an almost militaristic voice made me chuckle.
"Well, I'm fine with it, since I know you can do it well."
"Yes!" he shouted in enthusiasm before sitting back down.
"Well, I hope that's fine with you, Lilia."
"Yeah, it's fine."
I wasn't too thrilled to be working with someone that was seemingly this enthusiastic, but I didn't have time to give it much thought.
"Then, Julle will brief you and explain everything to you. It's not his first time doing them, so there won't be any issues."
I nodded. She went back to talking about other jobs while I handled the information that my summons had obtained during this brief moment of inattention. As ordered, one of my goblins tried to enter by knocking on the door... He got killed as soon as he touched it by some unknown magic. There was no mistaking it, something was going on with that shed.
I wasn't sure how to handle the situation. However, I knew how to not lose it. I told every single goblin I had summoned to rush to the shed in order to surround and survey it. This would allow me to have any information on anything that might happen within and around the shed while I gathered people to investigate and found what exactly to do.
Unfortunately, I knew I wouldn't be able to get out until the meeting was over. By the time I was done and gave instructions to all the goblins, I focused again and saw that... they were talking finances? I was baffled. Do honor students really have to handle the treasury? Maybe it's a separate treasury for work that only the students have to bother with?
I took the time to listen in and read the papers we were given properly. It turned out to be a separate budget for an incentive taken by the honor students: allow the students to take on guild requests. The adventurer's job is doubled, having to do the quest while also taking the students' safety into account. This is applicable for 1st and 2nd years students, as 3rd year and higher are capable of taking D-rank quests on their own.
The majority of the meeting was for planning budgets and what kind of adventurer to take. I stayed quiet, not being very knowledgeable about that field. The meeting eventually ended, as everyone wanted to go eat together.
"Lilia, do you have a minute?" Lynn asked.
"Uh, yes?"
"Can you tell Sayuri about everything when you see her? She'll be your roommate so it should be easy for you."
