"You...already made a color-change spell?" I repeated, dumbfounded.
"Kind of, yes. I was thinking about it while in the bath, so I tried something on one of our soaps and made it go from light-brown to blue."
I just stood there in silence, staring and trying to understand just how absurd that was.
"And I'm called a genius," I mumbled eventually.
"So, how was the spell exactly?" I asked out loud.
"I simply imagined the soap turn from light-brown to blue, and it did. I'm not sure what kind of magic it was, however."
"So you did it...purely through imagination?"
"Basically, yes. I think it's still color changed, if you want to go check it."
"I'll do that as I take my bath, yeah."
Without any further conversation, I grabbed myself a dress and panties and headed for the bath. To my surprise, the soap had indeed changed color. The one I knew was light-brown, while the one here was deep-blue. The shape was the exact same, however, so I recognized it to be the same soap.
I was slightly fascinated by how fast Father had managed to make the spell, while also being slightly scared at how much of a genius he had to be to understand the laws of physics so fast he could play around them at-
He didn't have to play around the laws of physics. He imagined it, and it worked. In the end, the entirety of the work I had been putting trying to work through physics was only counter-productive. Magic is not the same physics as I know.
I started laughing out loud after realizing my own delusion. My stubborn and prideful mind wouldn't abandon physics as I know it, making me unable to actually work things through. I kept laughing for a long time, never feeling tired from it, until I eventually calmed down and too my bath. I decided not to sleep in the water and instead went into my room for the night.
As I woke up, I felt slightly cramped. I assumed it was from not sleeping in the water and went to cook breakfast. Surprisingly, Father was already awake and cooking
"Good morning. Unusual of you to sleep so late."
"Late? What time is it?"
"Around nine."
I didn't really know how late I'd normally wake up at, so I simply nodded and went to sit on the table waiting for breakfast. We stayed silent until he finished shortly after and brought two bowls of soup.
"So, in regards to the color change spell," he initiated.
"I saw the soap. You actually did it."
"Did you not believe me?"
"To be fair, I kinda didn't. I didn't expect you to actually manage something like that so fast. How did you do?"
"As I said, I just imagined it and it worked. I think it was Alchemic magic but I can't be sure."
"I think it was, yeah. Wouldn't make sense otherwise."
"You're right."
The conversation died down, as I started thinking back on the day prior, and on how stupid I've been thinking science could solve problems I would have here. As my faith in the hard and cold science from Earth dwindled in this other world, so did my motivation to keep working on my magic.
I ate quite slowly, seemingly worrying Father as he stayed around even after he was done. I cleaned my bowl as I normally do, then went straight into my room and went on my bed, trying to rest. I ended up falling asleep for the rest of the morning.
